5 »А сада, сине човечији, узми оштар мач и њиме, као берберском бритвом, обриј косу и браду, па узми теразије и раздели косу. 2 Када се заврше дани твоје опсаде, спали трећину косе на ватри усред града. Потом узми другу трећину и удри по њој мачем свуда око града, а трећу трећину распрши на све стране света[a]. Јер, ја ћу их гонити исуканим мачем. 3 Али узми неколико власи косе и задени их у наборе на својој одећи. 4 Онда узми неколико ових власи и баци их у ватру и спали. Одатле ће се пожар проширити на сав израелски народ.
5 »Овако каже Господ ГОСПОД: Ово је Јерусалим, који сам ја поставио у средиште народâ, са земљама свуда око њега. 6 Али у својој опакости он се побунио против мојих закона и уредби више него народи и земље око њега. Одбацио је моје законе и није живео по мојим уредбама.
7 »Зато овако каже Господ ГОСПОД: Непокорнији сте од народâ око вас. Не живите по мојим уредбама и не држите се мојих закона, па чак ни законâ народâ око вас. 8 Зато овако каже Господ ГОСПОД: Сâм ја сам против тебе, Јерусалиме, и извршићу казну над тобом наочиглед народима. 9 Због свих твојих гнусних идола, учинићу ти оно што још никад нисам учинио и што никад више нећу учинити. 10 Зато ће у теби очеви јести своју децу, а деца јести своје очеве. Извршићу казну над тобом, а све који преостану од тебе распршићу на све стране света. 11 Стога, тако ми живота, говори Господ ГОСПОД, пошто си укаљао моје светилиште свим својим гадостима и гнусобама, ускратићу ти своју наклоност. Нећу се на тебе сажалити, нити те поштедети. 12 Трећина твога народа помреће од помора или страдати од глади у теби, трећина ће пасти од мача око тебе, а трећину ћу распршити на све стране света и гонити их исуканим мачем. 13 Тако ће се мој гнев искалити и моја срџба ће се смирити кад им се осветим. А кад искалим своју срџбу на њима, знаће да сам ја, ГОСПОД, говорио из жестоке љубоморе.
14 »Претворићу те у рушевину и ругло међу народима око тебе, у очима свих који туда прођу. 15 Бићеш предмет вређања и поруге, опомена и ужас народима око себе када извршим казну над тобом у јаросном гневу и срџби. Ја, ГОСПОД, рекох. 16 Када на тебе пошаљем своје смртоносне и разорне стреле глади, да те затру, твоју глад ћу учинити све већом и прекинути ти снабдевање хлебом. 17 Послаћу на тебе глад и дивље животиње, које ће ти побити децу. Помор и крвопролиће хараће по теби, а ја ћу на тебе довести мач. Ја, ГОСПОД, рекох.«

Jerusalem Will Be Destroyed
5 “And you, (A)O son of man, take a (B)sharp sword. Use it as (C)a barber's razor and (D)pass it over your head and your beard. Then take balances for weighing and divide the hair. 2 (E)A third part you shall burn in the fire (F)in the midst of the city, (G)when the days of the siege are completed. And a third part you shall take and strike with the sword all around the city. (H)And a third part you shall scatter to the wind, and (I)I will unsheathe the sword after them. 3 (J)And you shall take from these a small number and bind them in the skirts of your robe. 4 (K)And of these again you shall take some and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will come out into all the house of Israel.
5 “Thus says the Lord God: (L)This is Jerusalem. I have set her (M)in the center of the nations, with countries all around her. 6 And she has rebelled against my rules by doing wickedness (N)more than the nations, and against my statutes more than (O)the countries all around her; for they have rejected my rules and have not walked in my statutes. 7 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are (P)more turbulent than the nations that are all around you, (Q)and have not walked in my statutes or obeyed my rules, (R)and have not[a] even acted according to the rules of the nations that are all around you, 8 therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, (S)am against you. (T)And I will execute judgments[b] in your midst (U)in the sight of the nations. 9 And because of all your abominations I will do with you (V)what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again. 10 Therefore (W)fathers shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers. (X)And I will execute judgments on you, (Y)and any of you who survive I will scatter to all the winds. 11 Therefore, (Z)as I live, declares the Lord God, surely, (AA)because you have defiled my sanctuary (AB)with all your detestable things and with all your (AC)abominations, (AD)therefore I will withdraw.[c] (AE)My eye will not spare, and I will have no pity. 12 (AF)A third part of you shall die of pestilence and be consumed with famine in your midst; (AG)a third part shall fall by the sword all around you; (AH)and a third part I will scatter to all the winds and will unsheathe the sword after them.
13 (AI)“Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will vent my fury upon them and satisfy myself. And they shall know that (AJ)I am the Lord—that I have spoken in my jealousy—(AK)when I spend my fury upon them. 14 Moreover, I will make you (AL)a desolation and (AM)an object of reproach among (AN)the nations all around you and in the sight of all who pass by. 15 You shall be[d] a reproach and a taunt, a warning (AO)and a horror, to (AP)the nations all around you, (AQ)when I execute judgments on you in anger and fury, and (AR)with furious rebukes—I am the Lord; I have spoken— 16 when I send against you[e] (AS)the deadly arrows of famine, arrows for destruction, which I will send to destroy you, and when I bring more and more famine upon (AT)you and break your supply[f] of bread. 17 I will send famine and (AU)wild beasts against you, (AV)and they will rob you of your children. Pestilence and (AW)blood shall pass through you, and I will bring the sword upon you. I am the Lord; I have spoken.”

God’s Razor of Judgment
5 “Now, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it as a barber’s razor(A) to shave(B) your head and your beard.(C) Then take a set of scales and divide up the hair. 2 When the days of your siege come to an end, burn(D) a third(E) of the hair inside the city. Take a third and strike it with the sword all around the city. And scatter a third to the wind.(F) For I will pursue them with drawn sword.(G) 3 But take a few hairs and tuck them away in the folds of your garment.(H) 4 Again, take a few of these and throw them into the fire(I) and burn them up. A fire will spread from there to all Israel.
5 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.(J) 6 Yet in her wickedness she has rebelled against my laws and decrees more than the nations and countries around her. She has rejected my laws and has not followed my decrees.(K)
7 “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: You have been more unruly than the nations around you and have not followed my decrees or kept my laws. You have not even[a] conformed to the standards of the nations around you.(L)
8 “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself am against you, Jerusalem, and I will inflict punishment on you in the sight of the nations.(M) 9 Because of all your detestable idols, I will do to you what I have never done before and will never do again.(N) 10 Therefore in your midst parents will eat their children, and children will eat their parents.(O) I will inflict punishment on you and will scatter all your survivors to the winds.(P) 11 Therefore as surely as I live,(Q) declares the Sovereign(R) Lord, because you have defiled my sanctuary(S) with all your vile images(T) and detestable practices,(U) I myself will shave you; I will not look on you with pity or spare you.(V) 12 A third of your people will die of the plague or perish by famine inside you; a third will fall by the sword outside your walls; and a third I will scatter to the winds(W) and pursue with drawn sword.(X)
13 “Then my anger will cease and my wrath(Y) against them will subside, and I will be avenged.(Z) And when I have spent my wrath on them, they will know that I the Lord have spoken in my zeal.(AA)
14 “I will make you a ruin and a reproach among the nations around you, in the sight of all who pass by.(AB) 15 You will be a reproach(AC) and a taunt, a warning(AD) and an object of horror to the nations around you when I inflict punishment on you in anger and in wrath and with stinging rebuke.(AE) I the Lord have spoken.(AF) 16 When I shoot at you with my deadly and destructive arrows of famine, I will shoot to destroy you. I will bring more and more famine upon you and cut off your supply of food.(AG) 17 I will send famine and wild beasts(AH) against you, and they will leave you childless. Plague and bloodshed(AI) will sweep through you, and I will bring the sword against you. I the Lord have spoken.(AJ)”
