9 І кликнув Він в уші мої сильним голосом, кажучи: Наблизьте карателів міста, і кожен нехай має в своїй руці свої нищівні знаряддя.
2 І ось прийшли шість чоловіка з дороги горішньої брами, що звернена на північ, і кожен мав у своїй руці свої знаряддя розбивання, а серед них один чоловік був одягнений в льняне, а писарський каламар був при стегнах його. І вони прийшли, і стали при мідяному жертівнику.
3 А слава Ізраїлевого Бога піднялася з-над Херувима, що була над ним, до порога дому. І закликав Він чоловіка, одягненого в льняне, що писарський каламар був при стегнах його.
4 І сказав Господь до нього: Перейди серединою міста, серединою Єрусалиму, і зроби знака на чолах людей, що зідхають та стогнуть над усіма тими гидотами, що робляться в його середині.
5 А до інших Він сказав при мені: Ходіть за ним у місті, і вбивайте; нехай ваше око не має милосердя, і ви не змилуйтеся!
6 Старого, юнака, і дівчину, і дітей та жінок позабивайте дощенту, а до кожної людини, що на ній цей знак, не підійдете; а зачнете від Моєї святині... І зачали вони від тих старих людей, що були перед домом.
7 І сказав Він до них: Занечистіть цей дім, і наповніть подвір'я трупами, і вийдіть! І вони повиходили, і вбивали в місті.
8 І сталося, коли вони вбивали, то я позостався, і впав на своє обличчя, і кликав та казав: О Господи, Боже, чи Ти вигубиш увесь останок Ізраїлів, виливаючи гнів Свій на Єрусалим?
9 І сказав Він до мене: Провина дому Ізраїля й Юди дуже-дуже велика, і земля наповнена душогубствами, а місто повне кривди. Бо вони кажуть: Господь покинув цей Край, і Господь не бачить...
10 І також Я, не змилосердиться око Моє, і не змилуюсь Я, їхню дорогу Я дам на їхню голову!
11 І ось чоловік, одягнений в льняне, що каламар був при стегнах його, приніс відповідь, кажучи: Я зробив, як мені наказав Ти!

9 І почув я, як Він голосно вигукнув: «Приведи сюди відповідальних за покарання міста, кожного з його руйнівною зброєю в руках[a]». 2 І я пробачив шість чоловік, що наближалися від верхньої брами, зверненої на північ, кожен із смертоносною зброєю у руці. З ними був чоловік, одягнений у полотняний одяг[b], із писарським приладдям при боці. Вони підійшли й зупинилися поряд з бронзовим вівтарем.
3 Тепер слава Бога Ізраїлю піднялася з-над Херувима, над яким вона перебувала, і перенеслася до порогу храму. Тоді Господь звернувся до чоловіка у полотняному вбранні, що мав писарське приладдя при боці. 4 Він сказав йому: «Пройди по всьому Єрусалиму і постав знак на чолах тих, хто сумує та тужить через усю мерзоту, що чиниться в місті».
5 А іншим він сказав, і я це чув: «Ідіть за ним по місту і вбивайте без милосердя і співчуття. 6 Забивайте на смерть старих чоловіків та молодих хлопців, дівчат, жінок та дітей, але не чіпайте жодного, хто має знак на чолі. Починайте з моєї святині». Тож вони почали зі старійшин, що були перед храмом. 7 Тоді він сказав їм: «Оскверніть храм і наповніть тілами вбитих подвір’я. Ідіть!» Тож вони пішли й почали вбивства по всьому місту. 8 Поки вони вбивали, я лежав долілиць вигукуючи: «О, Господи Боже! Невже ти збираєшся винищити всю решту Ізраїлю в цьому виливі своєї люті на Єрусалим?»
9 Він відповів мені: «Цей гріх дому Ізраїля та Юди неймовірно великий; земля залита кров’ю, і місто повне кривди. Вони кажуть: „Господь покинув землю. Господь не бачить”. 10 Тож Я дивитимуся на них без співчуття і милосердя, але поверну на їхні голови те, що вони накоїли». 11 Тоді чоловік у полотняному вбранні з писарським приладдям при боці прозвітував такими словами: «Я зробив так, як Ти наказав».

9 He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.
2 And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar.
3 And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;
4 And the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
5 And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:
6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.
7 And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew in the city.
8 And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord God! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?
9 Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The Lord hath forsaken the earth, and the Lord seeth not.
10 And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head.
11 And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.

Judgment on the Idolaters
9 Then I heard him call out in a loud voice, “Bring near those who are appointed to execute judgment on the city, each with a weapon in his hand.” 2 And I saw six men coming from the direction of the upper gate, which faces north, each with a deadly weapon in his hand. With them was a man clothed in linen(A) who had a writing kit at his side. They came in and stood beside the bronze altar.
3 Now the glory(B) of the God of Israel went up from above the cherubim,(C) where it had been, and moved to the threshold of the temple. Then the Lord called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side 4 and said to him, “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem(D) and put a mark(E) on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament(F) over all the detestable things that are done in it.(G)”
5 As I listened, he said to the others, “Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity(H) or compassion.(I) 6 Slaughter(J) the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children,(K) but do not touch anyone who has the mark.(L) Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the old men(M) who were in front of the temple.(N)
7 Then he said to them, “Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain.(O) Go!” So they went out and began killing throughout the city. 8 While they were killing and I was left alone, I fell facedown,(P) crying out, “Alas, Sovereign Lord!(Q) Are you going to destroy the entire remnant of Israel in this outpouring of your wrath(R) on Jerusalem?(S)”
9 He answered me, “The sin of the people of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice.(T) They say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land; the Lord does not see.’(U) 10 So I will not look on them with pity(V) or spare them, but I will bring down on their own heads what they have done.(W)”
11 Then the man in linen with the writing kit at his side brought back word, saying, “I have done as you commanded.”
