7 Ora, dopo che ebbe terminato tutto questo suo discorso al popolo che udiva, entrò in Capernaum.
2 Ora il servo di un centurione, che gli era molto caro, era malato e stava per morire.
3 E il centurione, avendo sentito parlare di Gesú, gli mandò alcuni anziani dei Giudei, pregandolo di venire a guarire il suo servo.
4 Ed essi, giunti da Gesú, lo pregarono con insistenza dicendo: «Egli merita che tu gli conceda questo,
5 perché egli ama la nostra nazione, ed è stato lui a costruirci la sinagoga».
6 Allora Gesú andò con loro. Egli non era molto lontano dalla casa, quando il centurione gli mandò degli amici per dirgli: «Signore, non disturbarti, perché io non sono degno che tu entri sotto il mio tetto.
7 Per questo neppure mi sono ritenuto degno di venire da te; ma di' una parola e il mio servo sarà guarito.
8 Poiché anch'io sono un uomo sottoposto all'autorità altrui e ho sotto di me dei soldati, e dico ad uno: "Va'" ed egli va, e a un altro: "Vieni" ed egli viene, e al mio servo: "Fa' questo" ed egli lo fa».
9 Quando Gesú udí queste cose si meravigliò di lui e, rivolgendosi alla folla che lo seguiva, disse: «Io vi dico, che neppure in Israele ho trovato una fede cosí grande».
10 E, quando gli inviati fecero ritorno a casa, trovarono il servo, che era stato infermo, guarito.
11 E il giorno dopo egli si recò in una città, chiamata Nain; e con lui andavano molti dei suoi discepoli e una grande folla.
12 E quando fu vicino alla porta della città, ecco che si portava a seppellire un morto, figlio unico di sua madre, che era vedova; e una grande folla della città era con lei.
13 Appena la vide, il Signore ne ebbe compassione e le disse: «Non piangere!».
14 Accostatosi, toccò la bara, e i portatori si fermarono, allora egli disse: «Giovinetto, io ti dico, alzati!».
15 E il morto si mise a sedere e cominciò a parlare. E Gesú lo consegnò a sua madre.
16 Allora furono tutti presi da meraviglia e glorificavano Dio, dicendo: «Un grande profeta è sorto fra noi» e: «Dio ha visitato il suo popolo».
17 E questo detto a suo riguardo si sparse per tutta la Giudea e per tutta la regione all'intorno.
18 Or Giovanni venne informato dai suoi discepoli di tutte queste cose.
19 E Giovanni, chiamati a sé due dei suoi discepoli, li mandò da Gesú a dirgli: «Sei tu colui che ha da venire, oppure dobbiamo aspettarne un altro?».
20 Quegli uomini, dunque, andarono da lui e gli dissero: «Giovanni Battista ci ha mandati da te, a dirti: "Sei tu colui che deve venire, oppure dobbiamo aspettarne un altro?"».
21 In quella stessa ora Gesú ne guarí molti da infermità, da calamità e da spiriti maligni, e a molti ciechi donò la vista.
22 E Gesú, rispondendo, disse loro: «Andate e riferite a Giovanni ciò che avete visto e udito: i ciechi recuperano la vista, gli zoppi camminano, i lebbrosi sono mondati, i sordi odono, i morti risuscitano, e l'evangelo è annunziato ai poveri.
23 E beato è colui che non si scandalizza di me!».
24 Quando i messaggeri di Giovanni se ne furono andati, egli prese a dire alle folle riguardo a Giovanni: «Che cosa siete andati a vedere nel deserto? Una canna agitata dal vento?
25 Ma che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un uomo vestito con morbide vesti? Ecco, coloro che portano splendide vesti e vivono in delizie stanno nei palazzi dei re.
26 Ma che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un profeta? Sí, vi dico, ancor piú di un profeta.
27 Egli è colui del quale è scritto: "Ecco, io mando il mio messaggero davanti alla tua faccia, il quale preparerà la tua strada davanti a te".
28 Perché io vi dico che fra i nati di donna, non vi è alcun profeta piú grande di Giovanni Battista; tuttavia il minimo nel regno di Dio è piú grande di lui».
29 E tutto il popolo che lo aveva udito, e i pubblicani riconobbero la giustizia di Dio, e si fecero battezzare del battesimo di Giovanni.
30 Ma i farisei e i dottori della legge respinsero il disegno di Dio per loro e non si fecero battezzare.
31 Allora il Signore disse: «A che cosa dunque paragonerò gli uomini di questa generazione? E a chi somigliano?
32 Sono simili ai fanciulli che siedono in piazza e gridano gli uni agli altri, dicendo: "Noi vi abbiamo suonato il flauto e non avete ballato, vi abbiamo cantato dei lamenti e non avete pianto".
33 E' venuto infatti Giovanni Battista che non mangia pane né beve vino, e voi dite: "Egli ha un demone".
34 E' venuto il Figlio dell'uomo che mangia e beve voi dite: "Ecco un mangione e un beone, amico dei pubblicani e dei peccatori".
35 Ma alla sapienza è stata fatta giustizia da tutti i suoi figli».
36 Or uno dei farisei lo invitò a mangiare con lui; ed egli, entrato in casa del fariseo, si mise a tavola.
37 Ed ecco una donna della città, che era una peccatrice, saputo che egli era a tavola in casa del fariseo, portò un vaso di alabastro pieno di olio profumato.
38 E, stando ai suoi piedi, di dietro piangendo, cominciò a bagnargli di lacrime i piedi e ad asciugarli con i capelli del suo capo; e glieli baciava e li ungeva con l'olio profumato.
39 Al vedere questo, il fariseo che lo aveva invitato disse fra sé: «Se costui fosse un profeta, saprebbe chi e quale genere di persona e la donna che lo tocca perché è una peccatrice».
40 E Gesú, rispondendo, gli disse: «Simone, ho qualche cosa da dirti». Ed egli disse: «Maestro, di' pure».
41 E Gesú gli disse: «Un creditore aveva due debitori; l'uno gli doveva cinquecento denari e l'altro cinquanta.
42 Non avendo essi di che pagare, egli condonò il debito ad entrambi. Secondo te, chi di loro lo amerà di piú?».
43 E Simone, rispondendo, disse: «Suppongo sia colui, al quale egli ha condonato di piú». E Gesú gli disse: «Hai giudicato giustamente».
44 Poi, volgendosi verso la donna, disse a Simone: «Vedi questa donna? Io sono entrato in casa tua e tu non mi hai dato dell'acqua per lavare i piedi lei invece mi ha bagnato i piedi con le lacrime e li ha asciugati con i capelli del suo capo.
45 Tu non mi hai dato neppure un bacio, ma lei da quando sono entrato, non ha smesso di baciarmi i piedi.
46 Tu non mi hai unto il capo di olio ma lei, ha unto i miei piedi di olio profumato.
47 Perciò ti dico che i suoi molti peccati le sono perdonati, perché ha molto amato; ma colui al quale poco è perdonato, poco ama».
48 Poi disse a lei: «I tuoi peccati ti sono perdonati».
49 Allora quelli che erano a tavola con lui cominciarono a dire fra loro: «Chi è costui che perdona anche i peccati?».
50 Ma Gesú disse alla donna: «La tua fede ti ha salvata; va' in pace!».

7 επει δε επληρωσεν παντα τα ρηματα αυτου εις τας ακοας του λαου εισηλθεν εις καπερναουμ
2 εκατονταρχου δε τινος δουλος κακως εχων ημελλεν τελευταν ος ην αυτω εντιμος
3 ακουσας δε περι του ιησου απεστειλεν προς αυτον πρεσβυτερους των ιουδαιων ερωτων αυτον οπως ελθων διασωση τον δουλον αυτου
4 οι δε παραγενομενοι προς τον ιησουν παρεκαλουν αυτον σπουδαιως λεγοντες οτι αξιος εστιν ω παρεξει τουτο
5 αγαπα γαρ το εθνος ημων και την συναγωγην αυτος ωκοδομησεν ημιν
6 ο δε ιησους επορευετο συν αυτοις ηδη δε αυτου ου μακραν απεχοντος απο της οικιας επεμψεν προς αυτον ο εκατονταρχος φιλους λεγων αυτω κυριε μη σκυλλου ου γαρ ειμι ικανος ινα υπο την στεγην μου εισελθης
7 διο ουδε εμαυτον ηξιωσα προς σε ελθειν αλλα ειπε λογω και ιαθησεται ο παις μου
8 και γαρ εγω ανθρωπος ειμι υπο εξουσιαν τασσομενος εχων υπ εμαυτον στρατιωτας και λεγω τουτω πορευθητι και πορευεται και αλλω ερχου και ερχεται και τω δουλω μου ποιησον τουτο και ποιει
9 ακουσας δε ταυτα ο ιησους εθαυμασεν αυτον και στραφεις τω ακολουθουντι αυτω οχλω ειπεν λεγω υμιν ουδε εν τω ισραηλ τοσαυτην πιστιν ευρον
10 και υποστρεψαντες οι πεμφθεντες εις τον οικον ευρον τον ασθενουντα δουλον υγιαινοντα
11 και εγενετο εν τη εξης επορευετο εις πολιν καλουμενην ναιν και συνεπορευοντο αυτω οι μαθηται αυτου ικανοι και οχλος πολυς
12 ως δε ηγγισεν τη πυλη της πολεως και ιδου εξεκομιζετο τεθνηκως υιος μονογενης τη μητρι αυτου και αυτη ην χηρα και οχλος της πολεως ικανος συν αυτη
13 και ιδων αυτην ο κυριος εσπλαγχνισθη επ αυτη και ειπεν αυτη μη κλαιε
14 και προσελθων ηψατο της σορου οι δε βασταζοντες εστησαν και ειπεν νεανισκε σοι λεγω εγερθητι
15 και ανεκαθισεν ο νεκρος και ηρξατο λαλειν και εδωκεν αυτον τη μητρι αυτου
16 ελαβεν δε φοβος απαντας και εδοξαζον τον θεον λεγοντες οτι προφητης μεγας εγηγερται εν ημιν και οτι επεσκεψατο ο θεος τον λαον αυτου
17 και εξηλθεν ο λογος ουτος εν ολη τη ιουδαια περι αυτου και εν παση τη περιχωρω
18 και απηγγειλαν ιωαννη οι μαθηται αυτου περι παντων τουτων
19 και προσκαλεσαμενος δυο τινας των μαθητων αυτου ο ιωαννης επεμψεν προς τον ιησουν λεγων συ ει ο ερχομενος η αλλον προσδοκωμεν
20 παραγενομενοι δε προς αυτον οι ανδρες ειπον ιωαννης ο βαπτιστης απεσταλκεν ημας προς σε λεγων συ ει ο ερχομενος η αλλον προσδοκωμεν
21 εν αυτη δε τη ωρα εθεραπευσεν πολλους απο νοσων και μαστιγων και πνευματων πονηρων και τυφλοις πολλοις εχαρισατο το βλεπειν
22 και αποκριθεις ο ιησους ειπεν αυτοις πορευθεντες απαγγειλατε ιωαννη α ειδετε και ηκουσατε οτι τυφλοι αναβλεπουσιν χωλοι περιπατουσιν λεπροι καθαριζονται κωφοι ακουουσιν νεκροι εγειρονται πτωχοι ευαγγελιζονται
23 και μακαριος εστιν ος εαν μη σκανδαλισθη εν εμοι
24 απελθοντων δε των αγγελων ιωαννου ηρξατο λεγειν προς τους οχλους περι ιωαννου τι εξεληλυθατε εις την ερημον θεασασθαι καλαμον υπο ανεμου σαλευομενον
25 αλλα τι εξεληλυθατε ιδειν ανθρωπον εν μαλακοις ιματιοις ημφιεσμενον ιδου οι εν ιματισμω ενδοξω και τρυφη υπαρχοντες εν τοις βασιλειοις εισιν
26 αλλα τι εξεληλυθατε ιδειν προφητην ναι λεγω υμιν και περισσοτερον προφητου
27 ουτος εστιν περι ου γεγραπται ιδου εγω αποστελλω τον αγγελον μου προ προσωπου σου ος κατασκευασει την οδον σου εμπροσθεν σου
28 λεγω γαρ υμιν μειζων εν γεννητοις γυναικων προφητης ιωαννου του βαπτιστου ουδεις εστιν ο δε μικροτερος εν τη βασιλεια του θεου μειζων αυτου εστιν
29 και πας ο λαος ακουσας και οι τελωναι εδικαιωσαν τον θεον βαπτισθεντες το βαπτισμα ιωαννου
30 οι δε φαρισαιοι και οι νομικοι την βουλην του θεου ηθετησαν εις εαυτους μη βαπτισθεντες υπ αυτου
31 ειπεν δε ο κυριος τινι ουν ομοιωσω τους ανθρωπους της γενεας ταυτης και τινι εισιν ομοιοι
32 ομοιοι εισιν παιδιοις τοις εν αγορα καθημενοις και προσφωνουσιν αλληλοις και λεγουσιν ηυλησαμεν υμιν και ουκ ωρχησασθε εθρηνησαμεν υμιν και ουκ εκλαυσατε
33 εληλυθεν γαρ ιωαννης ο βαπτιστης μητε αρτον εσθιων μητε οινον πινων και λεγετε δαιμονιον εχει
34 εληλυθεν ο υιος του ανθρωπου εσθιων και πινων και λεγετε ιδου ανθρωπος φαγος και οινοποτης τελωνων φιλος και αμαρτωλων
35 και εδικαιωθη η σοφια απο των τεκνων αυτης παντων
36 ηρωτα δε τις αυτον των φαρισαιων ινα φαγη μετ αυτου και εισελθων εις την οικιαν του φαρισαιου ανεκλιθη
37 και ιδου γυνη εν τη πολει ητις ην αμαρτωλος επιγνουσα οτι ανακειται εν τη οικια του φαρισαιου κομισασα αλαβαστρον μυρου
38 και στασα παρα τους ποδας αυτου οπισω κλαιουσα ηρξατο βρεχειν τους ποδας αυτου τοις δακρυσιν και ταις θριξιν της κεφαλης αυτης εξεμασσεν και κατεφιλει τους ποδας αυτου και ηλειφεν τω μυρω
39 ιδων δε ο φαρισαιος ο καλεσας αυτον ειπεν εν εαυτω λεγων ουτος ει ην προφητης εγινωσκεν αν τις και ποταπη η γυνη ητις απτεται αυτου οτι αμαρτωλος εστιν
40 και αποκριθεις ο ιησους ειπεν προς αυτον σιμων εχω σοι τι ειπειν ο δε φησιν διδασκαλε ειπε
41 δυο χρεωφειλεται ησαν δανειστη τινι ο εις ωφειλεν δηναρια πεντακοσια ο δε ετερος πεντηκοντα
42 μη εχοντων δε αυτων αποδουναι αμφοτεροις εχαρισατο τις ουν αυτων ειπε πλειον αυτον αγαπησει
43 αποκριθεις δε ο σιμων ειπεν υπολαμβανω οτι ω το πλειον εχαρισατο ο δε ειπεν αυτω ορθως εκρινας
44 και στραφεις προς την γυναικα τω σιμωνι εφη βλεπεις ταυτην την γυναικα εισηλθον σου εις την οικιαν υδωρ επι τους ποδας μου ουκ εδωκας αυτη δε τοις δακρυσιν εβρεξεν μου τους ποδας και ταις θριξιν της κεφαλης αυτης εξεμαξεν
45 φιλημα μοι ουκ εδωκας αυτη δε αφ ης εισηλθον ου διελιπεν καταφιλουσα μου τους ποδας
46 ελαιω την κεφαλην μου ουκ ηλειψας αυτη δε μυρω ηλειψεν μου τους ποδας
47 ου χαριν λεγω σοι αφεωνται αι αμαρτιαι αυτης αι πολλαι οτι ηγαπησεν πολυ ω δε ολιγον αφιεται ολιγον αγαπα
48 ειπεν δε αυτη αφεωνται σου αι αμαρτιαι
49 και ηρξαντο οι συνανακειμενοι λεγειν εν εαυτοις τις ουτος εστιν ος και αμαρτιας αφιησιν
50 ειπεν δε προς την γυναικα η πιστις σου σεσωκεν σε πορευου εις ειρηνην

26 αλλα τι εξεληλυθατε ιδειν προφητην ναι λεγω υμιν και περισσοτερον προφητου
27 ουτος εστιν περι ου γεγραπται ιδου εγω αποστελλω τον αγγελον μου προ προσωπου σου ος κατασκευασει την οδον σου εμπροσθεν σου

32 ομοιοι εισιν παιδιοις τοις εν αγορα καθημενοις και προσφωνουσιν αλληλοις και λεγουσιν ηυλησαμεν υμιν και ουκ ωρχησασθε εθρηνησαμεν υμιν και ουκ εκλαυσατε
33 εληλυθεν γαρ ιωαννης ο βαπτιστης μητε αρτον εσθιων μητε οινον πινων και λεγετε δαιμονιον εχει
34 εληλυθεν ο υιος του ανθρωπου εσθιων και πινων και λεγετε ιδου ανθρωπος φαγος και οινοποτης τελωνων φιλος και αμαρτωλων
35 και εδικαιωθη η σοφια απο των τεκνων αυτης παντων
36 ηρωτα δε τις αυτον των φαρισαιων ινα φαγη μετ αυτου και εισελθων εις την οικιαν του φαρισαιου ανεκλιθη
37 και ιδου γυνη εν τη πολει ητις ην αμαρτωλος επιγνουσα οτι ανακειται εν τη οικια του φαρισαιου κομισασα αλαβαστρον μυρου

43 αποκριθεις δε ο σιμων ειπεν υπολαμβανω οτι ω το πλειον εχαρισατο ο δε ειπεν αυτω ορθως εκρινας

The Faith of the Centurion(A)
7 When Jesus had finished saying all this(B) to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. 2 There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6 So Jesus went with them.
He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.(C) 8 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” 10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son(D)
11 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord(E) saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
14 Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”(F) 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 They were all filled with awe(G) and praised God.(H) “A great prophet(I) has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.”(J) 17 This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.(K)
Jesus and John the Baptist(L)
18 John’s(M) disciples(N) told him about all these things. Calling two of them, 19 he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”
20 When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’”
21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses(O) and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. 22 So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[a] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(P) 23 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
24 After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 25 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet?(Q) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 27 This is the one about whom it is written:
28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God(S) is greater than he.”
29 (All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.(T) 30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the law(U) rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
31 Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:
“‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not cry.’
33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine,(V) and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(W) 35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman(X)(Y)
36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet,(Z) he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”
“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[c] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet,(AA) but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss,(AB) but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head,(AC) but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”(AD)
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you;(AE) go in peace.”(AF)

21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.
26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
31 And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
