Missione dei settantadue discepoli
10 Dopo questi fatti il Signore designò altri settantadue discepoli e li inviò a due a due avanti a sé in ogni città e luogo dove stava per recarsi. 2 Diceva loro: «La messe è molta, ma gli operai sono pochi. Pregate dunque il padrone della messe perché mandi operai per la sua messe. 3 Andate: ecco io vi mando come agnelli in mezzo a lupi; 4 non portate borsa, né bisaccia, né sandali e non salutate nessuno lungo la strada. 5 In qualunque casa entriate, prima dite: Pace a questa casa. 6 Se vi sarà un figlio della pace, la vostra pace scenderà su di lui, altrimenti ritornerà su di voi. 7 Restate in quella casa, mangiando e bevendo di quello che hanno, perché l'operaio è degno della sua mercede. Non passate di casa in casa. 8 Quando entrerete in una città e vi accoglieranno, mangiate quello che vi sarà messo dinanzi, 9 curate i malati che vi si trovano, e dite loro: Si è avvicinato a voi il regno di Dio. 10 Ma quando entrerete in una città e non vi accoglieranno, uscite sulle piazze e dite: 11 Anche la polvere della vostra città che si è attaccata ai nostri piedi, noi la scuotiamo contro di voi; sappiate però che il regno di Dio è vicino. 12 Io vi dico che in quel giorno Sòdoma sarà trattata meno duramente di quella città.
13 Guai a te, Corazin, guai a te, Betsàida! Perché se in Tiro e Sidone fossero stati compiuti i miracoli compiuti tra voi, gia da tempo si sarebbero convertiti vestendo il sacco e coprendosi di cenere. 14 Perciò nel giudizio Tiro e Sidone saranno trattate meno duramente di voi.
15 E tu, Cafarnao,
sarai innalzata fino al cielo?
Fino agli inferi sarai precipitata!
16 Chi ascolta voi ascolta me, chi disprezza voi disprezza me. E chi disprezza me disprezza colui che mi ha mandato».
Ciò di cui devono gioire gli apostoli
17 I settantadue tornarono pieni di gioia dicendo: «Signore, anche i demòni si sottomettono a noi nel tuo nome». 18 Egli disse: «Io vedevo satana cadere dal cielo come la folgore. 19 Ecco, io vi ho dato il potere di camminare sopra i serpenti e gli scorpioni e sopra ogni potenza del nemico; nulla vi potrà danneggiare. 20 Non rallegratevi però perché i demòni si sottomettono a voi; rallegratevi piuttosto che i vostri nomi sono scritti nei cieli».
Il vangelo rivelato ai semplici. Il Padre e il Figlio
21 In quello stesso istante Gesù esultò nello Spirito Santo e disse: «Io ti rendo lode, Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra, che hai nascosto queste cose ai dotti e ai sapienti e le hai rivelate ai piccoli. Sì, Padre, perché così a te è piaciuto. 22 Ogni cosa mi è stata affidata dal Padre mio e nessuno sa chi è il Figlio se non il Padre, né chi è il Padre se non il Figlio e colui al quale il Figlio lo voglia rivelare».
Il privilegio dei discepoli
23 E volgendosi ai discepoli, in disparte, disse: «Beati gli occhi che vedono ciò che voi vedete. 24 Vi dico che molti profeti e re hanno desiderato vedere ciò che voi vedete, ma non lo videro, e udire ciò che voi udite, ma non l'udirono».
Il grande comandamento
25 Un dottore della legge si alzò per metterlo alla prova: «Maestro, che devo fare per ereditare la vita eterna?». 26 Gesù gli disse: «Che cosa sta scritto nella Legge? Che cosa vi leggi?». 27 Costui rispose: «Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta la tua anima, con tutta la tua forza e con tutta la tua mente e il prossimo tuo come te stesso». 28 E Gesù: «Hai risposto bene; fà questo e vivrai».
Parabola del buon Samaritano
29 Ma quegli, volendo giustificarsi, disse a Gesù: «E chi è il mio prossimo?». 30 Gesù riprese:
«Un uomo scendeva da Gerusalemme a Gerico e incappò nei briganti che lo spogliarono, lo percossero e poi se ne andarono, lasciandolo mezzo morto. 31 Per caso, un sacerdote scendeva per quella medesima strada e quando lo vide passò oltre dall'altra parte. 32 Anche un levita, giunto in quel luogo, lo vide e passò oltre. 33 Invece un Samaritano, che era in viaggio, passandogli accanto lo vide e n'ebbe compassione. 34 Gli si fece vicino, gli fasciò le ferite, versandovi olio e vino; poi, caricatolo sopra il suo giumento, lo portò a una locanda e si prese cura di lui. 35 Il giorno seguente, estrasse due denari e li diede all'albergatore, dicendo: Abbi cura di lui e ciò che spenderai in più, te lo rifonderò al mio ritorno. 36 Chi di questi tre ti sembra sia stato il prossimo di colui che è incappato nei briganti?». 37 Quegli rispose: «Chi ha avuto compassione di lui». Gesù gli disse: «Và e anche tu fà lo stesso».
Marta e Maria
38 Mentre erano in cammino, entrò in un villaggio e una donna, di nome Marta, lo accolse nella sua casa. 39 Essa aveva una sorella, di nome Maria, la quale, sedutasi ai piedi di Gesù, ascoltava la sua parola; 40 Marta invece era tutta presa dai molti servizi. Pertanto, fattasi avanti, disse: «Signore, non ti curi che mia sorella mi ha lasciata sola a servire? Dille dunque che mi aiuti». 41 Ma Gesù le rispose: «Marta, Marta, tu ti preoccupi e ti agiti per molte cose, 42 ma una sola è la cosa di cui c'è bisogno. Maria si è scelta la parte migliore, che non le sarà tolta».

10 (A)Dopo queste cose, il Signore designò altri settanta discepoli e li mandò a due a due davanti a sé in ogni città e luogo dov'egli stesso stava per andare. 2 E diceva loro: «La mèsse è grande, ma gli operai sono pochi; pregate dunque il Signore della mèsse perché spinga degli operai nella sua mèsse. 3 Andate; ecco, io vi mando come agnelli in mezzo ai lupi. 4 Non portate né borsa, né sacca, né calzari, e non salutate nessuno per via. 5 In qualunque casa entriate, dite prima: “Pace a questa casa!” 6 Se vi è lí un figlio di pace, la vostra pace riposerà su di lui; se no, ritornerà a voi. 7 Rimanete in quella stessa casa, mangiando e bevendo di quello che hanno, perché l'operaio è degno del suo salario[a]. Non passate di casa in casa. 8 In qualunque città entriate, se vi ricevono, mangiate ciò che vi sarà messo davanti, 9 guarite i malati che ci saranno e dite loro: “Il regno di Dio si è avvicinato a voi”. 10 Ma in qualunque città entriate, se non vi ricevono, uscite sulle piazze e dite: 11 “Perfino la polvere della vostra città che si è attaccata ai nostri piedi, noi la scotiamo contro di voi; sappiate tuttavia questo, che il regno di Dio si è avvicinato a voi”. 12 Io vi dico che in quel giorno la sorte di *Sodoma sarà piú tollerabile della sorte di quella città.
Gesú rimprovera le città impenitenti
13 (B)«Guai a te, Corazin! Guai a te, Betsàida; perché se in *Tiro e in *Sidone fossero state fatte le opere potenti compiute tra di voi, già da tempo si sarebbero ravvedute, prendendo il cilicio e sedendo nella cenere. 14 Perciò, nel giorno del giudizio, la sorte di Tiro e di Sidone sarà piú tollerabile della vostra. 15 E tu, *Capernaum, sarai forse innalzata fino al cielo? No, tu scenderai fino all'Ades.
16 Chi ascolta voi ascolta me; chi respinge voi respinge me, e chi rifiuta me rifiuta Colui che mi ha mandato».
17 (C)Or i settanta tornarono pieni di gioia, dicendo: «Signore, anche i demòni ci sono sottoposti nel tuo nome». 18 Ed egli disse loro: «Io vedevo Satana cadere dal cielo come folgore. 19 Ecco, io vi ho dato il potere di camminare sopra serpenti e scorpioni e su tutta la potenza del nemico; nulla potrà farvi del male. 20 Tuttavia, non vi rallegrate perché gli spiriti vi sono sottoposti, ma rallegratevi perché i vostri nomi sono scritti nei cieli».
21 In quella stessa ora, Gesú, mosso dallo Spirito Santo, esultò e disse: «Io ti rendo lode, o Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra, perché hai nascosto queste cose ai sapienti e agli intelligenti, e le hai rivelate ai piccoli! Sí, Padre, perché cosí ti è piaciuto! 22 Ogni cosa mi è stata data in mano dal Padre mio; e nessuno sa chi è il Figlio, se non il Padre; né chi è il Padre, se non il Figlio e colui al quale il Figlio voglia rivelarlo». 23 E, rivolgendosi ai discepoli, disse loro privatamente: «Beati gli occhi che vedono quello che voi vedete! 24 Perché vi dico che molti *profeti e re hanno desiderato vedere quello che voi vedete, e non l'hanno visto; e udire quello che voi udite, e non l'hanno udito».
Il buon Samaritano
25 (D)Ed ecco, un *dottore della legge si alzò per metterlo alla prova, e gli disse: «Maestro, che devo fare per ereditar la vita eterna?» 26 Gesú gli disse: «Nella legge che cosa sta scritto? Come leggi?» 27 Egli rispose: «Ama il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta l'anima tua, con tutta la forza tua, con tutta la mente tua[b], e il tuo prossimo come te stesso[c]». 28 Gesú gli disse: «Hai risposto esattamente; fa' questo, e vivrai». 29 Ma egli, volendo giustificarsi, disse a Gesú: «E chi è il mio prossimo?» 30 Gesú rispose: «Un uomo scendeva da *Gerusalemme a *Gerico, e s'imbatté nei briganti che lo spogliarono, lo ferirono e poi se ne andarono, lasciandolo mezzo morto. 31 Per caso un *sacerdote scendeva per quella stessa strada; e lo vide, ma passò oltre dal lato opposto. 32 Cosí pure un *Levita, giunto in quel luogo, lo vide, ma passò oltre dal lato opposto. 33 Ma un *samaritano che era in viaggio, passandogli accanto, lo vide e ne ebbe pietà; 34 avvicinatosi, fasciò le sue piaghe, versandovi sopra olio e vino; poi lo mise sulla propria cavalcatura, lo condusse a una locanda e si prese cura di lui. 35 Il giorno dopo, presi due *denari, li diede all'oste e gli disse: “Prenditi cura di lui; e tutto ciò che spenderai di piú, te lo rimborserò al mio ritorno”. 36 Quale di questi tre ti pare essere stato il prossimo di colui che s'imbatté nei ladroni?» 37 Quegli rispose: «Colui che gli usò misericordia». Gesú gli disse: «Va', e fa' anche tu la stessa cosa».
Marta e Maria
38 (E)Mentre erano in cammino, Gesú entrò in un villaggio; e una donna, di nome *Marta, lo ricevette in casa sua. 39 Marta aveva una sorella chiamata *Maria, la quale, sedutasi ai piedi di Gesú, ascoltava la sua parola. 40 Ma Marta, tutta presa dalle faccende domestiche, venne e disse: «Signore, non ti importa che mia sorella mi abbia lasciata sola a servire? Dille dunque che mi aiuti». 41 Ma il Signore le rispose: «Marta, Marta, tu ti affanni e sei agitata per molte cose, ma una cosa sola è necessaria[d]. 42 Maria ha scelto la parte buona che non le sarà tolta».

Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two(A)(B)(C)
10 After this the Lord(D) appointed seventy-two[a] others(E) and sent them two by two(F) ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.(G) 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.(H) 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.(I) 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.(J) Do not move around from house to house.
8 “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.(K) 9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God(L) has come near to you.’ 10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you.(M) Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’(N) 12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom(O) than for that town.(P)
13 “Woe to you,(Q) Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth(R) and ashes. 14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum,(S) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[b]
16 “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”(T)
17 The seventy-two(U) returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”(V)
18 He replied, “I saw Satan(W) fall like lightning from heaven.(X) 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes(Y) and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”(Z)
21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AA) Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
22 “All things have been committed to me by my Father.(AB) No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”(AC)
23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”(AD)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan(AE)
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(AF)
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[c];(AG) and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”(AH)
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”(AI)
29 But he wanted to justify himself,(AJ) so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.(AK) 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan,(AL) as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
At the Home of Martha and Mary
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha(AM) opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary,(AN) who sat at the Lord’s feet(AO) listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care(AP) that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried(AQ) and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[f](AR) Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
13 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.
16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
22 All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
