EPILOGO
Apparizione sulla sponda del lago di Tiberiade
21 Dopo questi fatti, Gesù si manifestò di nuovo ai discepoli sul mare di Tiberìade. E si manifestò così: 2 si trovavano insieme Simon Pietro, Tommaso detto Dìdimo, Natanaèle di Cana di Galilea, i figli di Zebedèo e altri due discepoli. 3 Disse loro Simon Pietro: «Io vado a pescare». Gli dissero: «Veniamo anche noi con te». Allora uscirono e salirono sulla barca; ma in quella notte non presero nulla.
4 Quando gia era l'alba Gesù si presentò sulla riva, ma i discepoli non si erano accorti che era Gesù. 5 Gesù disse loro: «Figlioli, non avete nulla da mangiare?». Gli risposero: «No». 6 Allora disse loro: «Gettate la rete dalla parte destra della barca e troverete». La gettarono e non potevano più tirarla su per la gran quantità di pesci. 7 Allora quel discepolo che Gesù amava disse a Pietro: «E' il Signore!». Simon Pietro appena udì che era il Signore, si cinse ai fianchi il camiciotto, poiché era spogliato, e si gettò in mare. 8 Gli altri discepoli invece vennero con la barca, trascinando la rete piena di pesci: infatti non erano lontani da terra se non un centinaio di metri.
9 Appena scesi a terra, videro un fuoco di brace con del pesce sopra, e del pane. 10 Disse loro Gesù: «Portate un pò del pesce che avete preso or ora». 11 Allora Simon Pietro salì nella barca e trasse a terra la rete piena di centocinquantatrè grossi pesci. E benché fossero tanti, la rete non si spezzò. 12 Gesù disse loro: «Venite a mangiare». Enessuno dei discepoli osava domandargli: «Chi sei?», poiché sapevano bene che era il Signore.
13 Allora Gesù si avvicinò, prese il pane e lo diede a loro, e così pure il pesce. 14 Questa era la terza volta che Gesù si manifestava ai discepoli, dopo essere risuscitato dai morti.
15 Quand'ebbero mangiato, Gesù disse a Simon Pietro: «Simone di Giovanni, mi vuoi bene tu più di costoro?». Gli rispose: «Certo, Signore, tu lo sai che ti voglio bene». Gli disse: «Pasci i miei agnelli». 16 Gli disse di nuovo: «Simone di Giovanni, mi vuoi bene?». Gli rispose: «Certo, Signore, tu lo sai che ti voglio bene». Gli disse: «Pasci le mie pecorelle». 17 Gli disse per la terza volta: «Simone di Giovanni, mi vuoi bene?». Pietro rimase addolorato che per la terza volta gli dicesse: Mi vuoi bene?, e gli disse: «Signore, tu sai tutto; tu sai che ti voglio bene». Gli rispose Gesù: «Pasci le mie pecorelle. 18 In verità, in verità ti dico: quando eri più giovane ti cingevi la veste da solo, e andavi dove volevi; ma quando sarai vecchio tenderai le tue mani, e un altro ti cingerà la veste e ti porterà dove tu non vuoi». 19 Questo gli disse per indicare con quale morte egli avrebbe glorificato Dio. E detto questo aggiunse: «Seguimi».
20 Pietro allora, voltatosi, vide che li seguiva quel discepolo che Gesù amava, quello che nella cena si era trovato al suo fianco e gli aveva domandato: «Signore, chi è che ti tradisce?». 21 Pietro dunque, vedutolo, disse a Gesù: «Signore, e lui?». 22 Gesù gli rispose: «Se voglio che egli rimanga finché io venga, che importa a te? Tu seguimi». 23 Si diffuse perciò tra i fratelli la voce che quel discepolo non sarebbe morto. Gesù però non gli aveva detto che non sarebbe morto, ma: «Se voglio che rimanga finché io venga, che importa a te?».
Conclusione
24 Questo è il discepolo che rende testimonianza su questi fatti e li ha scritti; e noi sappiamo che la sua testimonianza è vera. 25 Vi sono ancora molte altre cose compiute da Gesù, che, se fossero scritte una per una, penso che il mondo stesso non basterebbe a contenere i libri che si dovrebbero scrivere.

21 Più tardi, Gesù apparve di nuovo ai discepoli nei pressi del lago di Galilea. Ecco come accadde.
2 Un gruppo di noi era là: Simon Pietro, Tommaso, «il Gemello», Natanaele (di Cana in Galilea), mio fratello Giacomo ed io, oltre ad altri due discepoli.
3 Simon Pietro disse: «Vado a pescare».
«Veniamo anche noi», rispondemmo tutti. Così andammo, ma non prendemmo niente per tutta la notte. 4 Allʼalba scorgemmo un uomo sulla spiaggia, ma non riuscivamo a capire chi fosse.
5 «Ragazzi, non avete niente da mangiare?» chiese. «No», rispondemmo.
6 Allora Gesù disse: «Gettate la rete alla destra della barca e troverete del pesce!» Calammo la rete e, un attimo dopo, non riuscivamo a tirarla su, tanto era carica di pesce!
7 Il discepolo che Gesù amava disse a Pietro: «Ma è il Signore!» A queste parole, Simon Pietro indossò la tunica, perché era nudo, e si tuffò in acqua. 8 Noi altri, invece, rimanemmo sulla barca a tirare la rete piena di pesce; eravamo circa a 100 metri dalla riva. 9 Quando giungemmo alla spiaggia, trovammo un fuoco acceso su cui arrostiva del pesce, e cʼera anche del pane.
10 «Portate qui un poʼ di quel pesce, che avete appena preso!» disse Gesù. 11 Allora Simon Pietro salì sulla barca e tirò in secca la rete. Cʼerano centocinquantatré grossi pesci e, benché fossero tanti, la rete non si era strappata.
12 «Ora venite a mangiare!» ci invitò Gesù; e nessuno di noi ebbe il coraggio di chiedergli se era proprio lui, perché, ormai, ne eravamo certi. 13 Allora Gesù ci diede il pane e i pesci.
14 Era la terza volta, dalla sua risurrezione, che Gesù cʼera apparso.
15 Dopo aver mangiato, Gesù disse a Simon Pietro: «Simone, figlio di Giovanni, mi ami più di questi altri?»
«Sì», rispose Pietro, «Tu sai che ti amo».
«Allora, pascola i miei agnelli!» disse Gesù.
16 Poi ripeté la domanda: «Simone, figlio di Giovanni, mi ami veramente?» «Sì, Signore», disse Pietro, «lo sai che ti amo».
«Allora pascola le mie pecore!»
17 Di nuovo Gesù gli chiese: «Simone, figlio di Giovanni, mi ami tu?»
A Pietro dispiacque che Gesù gli avesse fatto questa domanda per ben tre volte, e sbottò: «Signore, tu conosci ogni cosa. Tu sai che ti amo!»
Gesù disse: «Allora pascola le mie pecorelle. 18 Quando eri giovane, potevi fare quello che volevi e andare dove volevi. Quando sarai vecchio, invece, tenderai le mani ed altri ti guideranno per portarti dove non vorresti». 19 Gesù gli disse questo per far capire con quale morte Pietro avrebbe glorificato Dio. Poi gli disse: «Seguimi!»
20 Pietro, voltandosi, sʼaccorse che li seguiva il discepolo che Gesù amava, lo stesso che la sera dellʼultima cena, appoggiato sul suo petto, gli aveva chiesto: «Maestro, chi di noi ti tradirà?» 21 Allora Pietro chiese a Gesù: «Che ne sarà di lui, Signore?».
22 Gesù rispose: «Se voglio che viva fino al mio ritorno, che te ne importa? Intanto, tu seguimi!»
23 Per queste parole si sparse la voce fra i credenti che quel discepolo non sarebbe morto. Ma questo non era affatto ciò che Gesù aveva detto! Infatti, egli disse soltanto: «Se voglio che lui viva fino al mio ritorno, che te ne importa?»
24 Sono io quel discepolo! Ho visto queste cose e le ho raccontate qui. Tutti noi sappiamo che questo racconto risponde a verità. 25 Gesù fece molte altre cose: se si scrivessero tutte, una per una, il mondo intero non basterebbe a contenere i libri che si dovrebbero scrivere.

Gesú appare in riva al mare di Galilea
21 (A)Dopo queste cose, Gesú si manifestò di nuovo ai discepoli presso il mar di Tiberiade; e si manifestò in questa maniera.
2 *Simon *Pietro, *Tommaso detto Didimo, *Natanaele di Cana di *Galilea, i figli di Zebedeo e due altri dei suoi discepoli erano insieme. 3 Simon Pietro disse loro: «Vado a pescare». Essi gli dissero: «Veniamo anche noi con te». Uscirono e salirono sulla barca; e quella notte non presero nulla. 4 Quando già era mattina, Gesú si presentò sulla riva; i discepoli però non sapevano che era Gesú. 5 Allora Gesú disse loro: «Figlioli, avete del pesce?» Gli risposero: «No». 6 Ed egli disse loro: «Gettate la rete dal lato destro della barca e ne troverete». Essi dunque la gettarono, e non potevano piú tirarla su per il gran numero di pesci. 7 Allora il discepolo che Gesú amava disse a Pietro: «È il Signore!» Simon Pietro, udito che era il Signore, si cinse la veste, perché era nudo, e si gettò in mare. 8 Ma gli altri discepoli vennero con la barca, perché non erano molto distanti da terra (circa duecento *cubiti[a]) trascinando la rete con i pesci.
9 Appena scesero a terra, videro là della brace e del pesce messovi su, e del pane. 10 Gesú disse loro: «Portate qua dei pesci che avete preso ora». 11 Simon Pietro allora salí sulla barca e tirò a terra la rete piena di centocinquantatré grossi pesci; e benché ce ne fossero tanti, la rete non si strappò. 12 Gesú disse loro: «Venite a far colazione». E nessuno dei discepoli osava chiedergli: «Chi sei?» Sapendo che era il Signore. 13 Gesú venne, prese il pane e lo diede loro; e cosí anche il pesce.
14 Questa era già la terza volta che Gesú si manifestava ai suoi discepoli, dopo esser risuscitato dai morti.

15 (B)Quand'ebbero fatto colazione, Gesú disse a Simon Pietro: «Simone di Giovanni, mi ami piú di questi?» Egli rispose: «Sí, Signore, tu sai che ti voglio bene». Gesú gli disse: «Pasci i miei agnelli». 16 Gli disse di nuovo, una seconda volta: «Simone di Giovanni, mi ami?» Egli rispose: «Sí, Signore; tu sai che ti voglio bene». Gesú gli disse: «Pastura le mie pecore». 17 Gli disse la terza volta: «Simone di Giovanni, mi vuoi bene?» Pietro fu rattristato che egli avesse detto la terza volta: «Mi vuoi bene?» E gli rispose: «Signore, tu sai ogni cosa; tu conosci che ti voglio bene». Gesú gli disse: «Pasci le mie pecore. 18 In verità, in verità ti dico che quand'eri piú giovane, ti cingevi da solo e andavi dove volevi; ma quando sarai vecchio, stenderai le tue mani e un altro ti cingerà e ti condurrà dove non vorresti». 19 Disse questo per indicare con quale morte avrebbe glorificato Dio. E, dopo aver parlato cosí, gli disse: «Seguimi».
Il discepolo che Gesú amava
20 (C)Pietro, voltatosi, vide venirgli dietro il discepolo che Gesú amava; quello stesso che durante la cena stava inclinato sul seno di Gesú e aveva detto: «Signore, chi è che ti tradisce?» 21 Pietro dunque, vedutolo, disse a Gesú: «Signore, e di lui che sarà?» 22 Gesú gli rispose: «Se voglio che rimanga finché io venga, che t'importa? Tu, seguimi». 23 Per questo motivo si sparse tra i fratelli la voce che quel discepolo non sarebbe morto; Gesú però non gli aveva detto che non sarebbe morto, ma: «Se voglio che rimanga finché io venga, che t'importa?»
24 Questo è il discepolo che rende testimonianza di queste cose, e che ha scritto queste cose; e noi sappiamo che la sua testimonianza è vera.
25 Or vi sono ancora molte altre cose che Gesú ha fatte; se si scrivessero a una a una, penso che il mondo stesso non potrebbe contenere i libri che se ne scriverebbero.

Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish
21 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples,(A) by the Sea of Galilee.[a](B) It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas(C) (also known as Didymus[b]), Nathanael(D) from Cana in Galilee,(E) the sons of Zebedee,(F) and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.(G)
4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.(H)
5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”
“No,” they answered.
6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.(I)
7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved(J) said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8 The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] 9 When they landed, they saw a fire(K) of burning coals there with fish on it,(L) and some bread.
10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.(M) 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples(N) after he was raised from the dead.
Jesus Reinstates Peter
15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”(O)
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”(P)
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”(Q)
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”(R) He said, “Lord, you know all things;(S) you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.(T) 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death(U) by which Peter would glorify God.(V) Then he said to him, “Follow me!”(W)
20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved(X) was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”)(Y) 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”
22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return,(Z) what is that to you? You must follow me.”(AA) 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers(AB) that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things(AC) and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.(AD)
25 Jesus did many other things as well.(AE) If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
