True Vision and True Blindness

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had ^(A)found him, He said to him, “Do you ^(B)believe in ^(C)the Son of ^[a]God?”

³⁶ He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”

³⁷ And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and ^(D)it is He who is talking with you.”

³⁸ Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he ^(E)worshiped Him.

³⁹ And Jesus said, ^(F)“For judgment I have come into this world, ^(G)that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”

⁴⁰ Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, ^(H)and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”

⁴¹ Jesus said to them, ^(I)“If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

Jesus the True Shepherd

10 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. ² But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. ³ To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by ^(J)name and leads them out. ⁴ And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. ⁵ Yet they will by no means follow a ^(K)stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” ⁶ Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them.

Jesus the Good Shepherd

⁷ Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. ⁸ All who ever came ^[b]before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. ^9 (L)I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. ¹⁰ The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

^11 (M)“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

²⁶ But ^(A)you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, ^[a]as I said to you. ^27 (B)My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. ²⁸ And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

Sonship Through the Spirit

^12 (A)Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. ¹³ For ^(B)if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you ^(C)put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. ¹⁴ For ^(D)as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. ¹⁵ For ^(E)you did not receive the spirit of bondage again ^(F)to fear, but you received the ^(G)Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ^(H)“Abba,^[a] Father.” ^16 (I)The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

²³ Not only that, but we also who have ^(A)the firstfruits of the Spirit, ^(B)even we ourselves groan ^(C)within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the ^(D)redemption of our body. ²⁴ For we were saved in this hope, but ^(E)hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? ²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

²⁶ Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For ^(F)we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but ^(G)the Spirit Himself makes intercession ^[a]for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. ²⁷ Now ^(H)He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints ^(I)according to the will of God.

^27 (A)Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

^32 (A)Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, ^(B)each to his ^[a]own, and will leave Me alone. And ^(C)yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. ³³ These things I have spoken to you, that ^(D)in Me you may have peace. ^(E)In the world you ^[b]will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, ^(F)I have overcome the world.”
