²⁷ Your wealth,^(A) merchandise and wares,
    your mariners, sailors and shipwrights,
your merchants and all your soldiers,
    and everyone else on board
will sink into the heart of the sea^(B)
    on the day of your shipwreck.

“‘In the pride of your heart
    you say, “I am a god;
I sit on the throne^(B) of a god
    in the heart of the seas.”^(C)
But you are a mere mortal and not a god,
    though you think you are as wise as a god.^(D)

⁵ By your great skill in trading^(A)
    you have increased your wealth,^(B)
and because of your wealth
    your heart has grown proud.^(C)

⁸ They will bring you down to the pit,^(A)
    and you will die a violent death^(B)
    in the heart of the seas.^(C)

¹⁷ Your heart became proud^(A)
    on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
    because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth;
    I made a spectacle of you before kings.^(B)

⁹ I will trouble the hearts of many peoples
    when I bring about your destruction among the nations,
    among^[a] lands you have not known.
