Life Through the Spirit

8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation^(A) for those who are in Christ Jesus,^(B)

² because through Christ Jesus^(A) the law of the Spirit who gives life^(B) has set you^[a] free^(C) from the law of sin^(D) and death. ³ For what the law was powerless^(E) to do because it was weakened by the flesh,^[b](F) God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh^(G) to be a sin offering.^[c](H) And so he condemned sin in the flesh, ⁴ in order that the righteous requirement^(I) of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.^(J)

⁵ Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires;^(K) but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.^{(L) 6} The mind governed by the flesh is death,^(M) but the mind governed by the Spirit is life^(N) and peace.

More Than Conquerors

³¹ What, then, shall we say in response to these things?^(A) If God is for us,^(B) who can be against us?^{(C) 32} He who did not spare his own Son,^(D) but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? ³³ Who will bring any charge^(E) against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. ³⁴ Who then is the one who condemns?^(F) No one. Christ Jesus who died^(G)—more than that, who was raised to life^(H)—is at the right hand of God^(I) and is also interceding for us.^{(J) 35} Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?^(K) Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?^{(L) 36} As it is written:

³⁷ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors^(N) through him who loved us.^(O)

¹⁰ Then I heard a loud voice in heaven^(A) say:

¹⁴ (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law,^(A) they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. ¹⁵ They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.)

¹⁹ This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: ²⁰ If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
