18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.(A) 19 Do not take revenge,(B) my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[a](C) says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
    if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[b](D)

21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Submission to Governing Authorities

13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities,(E) for there is no authority except that which God has established.(F) The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted,(G) and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.(H)
