Romans 11:13-24

13 Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I glorify my ministry 14 in order to make my own people[a] jealous, and thus save some of them. 15 For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead! 16 If the part of the dough offered as first fruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; and if the root is holy, then the branches also are holy.
17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, a wild olive shoot, were grafted in their place to share the rich root[b] of the olive tree, 18 do not boast over the branches. If you do boast, remember that it is not you that support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 You will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand only through faith. So do not become proud, but stand in awe. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, perhaps he will not spare you.[c] 22 Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness toward you, provided you continue in his kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. 23 And even those of Israel,[d] if they do not persist in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. 24 For if you have been cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these natural branches be grafted back into their own olive tree.

13 Parlo a voi, stranieri; in quanto sono apostolo degli stranieri, faccio onore al mio ministero, 14 sperando in qualche maniera di provocare la gelosia di quelli del mio sangue[a], e di salvarne alcuni. 15 Infatti, se il loro ripudio è stato la riconciliazione del mondo, che sarà la loro riammissione, se non un rivivere dai morti?
16 Se la primizia[b] è santa, anche la massa è santa; se la radice è santa, anche i rami sono santi. 17 Se alcuni rami sono stati troncati, mentre tu, che sei olivo selvatico, sei stato innestato al loro posto e sei diventato partecipe della radice e della linfa dell’olivo[c], 18 non insuperbirti contro i rami; ma se ti insuperbisci, sappi che non sei tu che porti la radice, ma è la radice che porta te. 19 Allora tu dirai: «Sono stati troncati i rami perché fossi innestato io». 20 Bene: essi sono stati troncati per la loro incredulità e tu rimani stabile per la fede; non insuperbirti, ma temi. 21 Perché se Dio non ha risparmiato i rami naturali, non risparmierà neppure te. 22 Considera dunque la bontà e la severità di Dio: la severità verso quelli che sono caduti; ma verso di te la bontà di Dio, purché tu perseveri nella sua bontà[d]; altrimenti, anche tu sarai reciso. 23 Allo stesso modo anche quelli, se non perseverano nella loro incredulità, saranno innestati; perché Dio ha la potenza di innestarli di nuovo. 24 Infatti, se tu sei stato tagliato dall’olivo selvatico per natura e sei stato contro natura innestato nell’olivo domestico, quanto più essi, che sono i rami naturali, saranno innestati nel loro proprio olivo.

13 Denn zu euch, den Heiden, rede ich: Weil ich Apostel der Heiden bin, bringe ich meinen Dienst zu Ehren,
14 ob ich irgendwie meine Volksgenossen zur Eifersucht reizen und etliche von ihnen erretten kann.
15 Denn wenn ihre Verwerfung die Versöhnung der Welt [zur Folge hatte], was wird ihre Annahme anderes [zur Folge haben] als Leben aus den Toten?
16 Wenn aber die Erstlingsgabe[a] heilig ist, so ist es auch der Teig, und wenn die Wurzel heilig ist, so sind es auch die Zweige.
Die Gläubigen aus den Heidenvölkern sollen sich nicht überheben
17 Wenn aber etliche der Zweige ausgebrochen wurden und du als ein wilder Ölzweig unter sie eingepfropft bist und mit Anteil bekommen hast an der Wurzel und der Fettigkeit des Ölbaums,
18 so überhebe dich nicht gegen die Zweige! Überhebst du dich aber, [so bedenke]: Nicht du trägst die Wurzel, sondern die Wurzel trägt dich!
19 Nun sagst du aber: »Die Zweige sind ausgebrochen worden, damit ich eingepfropft werde«.
20 Ganz recht! Um ihres Unglaubens willen sind sie ausgebrochen worden; du aber stehst durch den Glauben. Sei nicht hochmütig, sondern fürchte dich!
21 Denn wenn Gott die natürlichen Zweige nicht verschont hat, könnte es sonst geschehen, dass er auch dich nicht verschont.
22 So sieh nun die Güte und die Strenge Gottes; die Strenge gegen die, welche gefallen sind; die Güte aber gegen dich, sofern du bei der Güte bleibst; sonst wirst auch du abgehauen werden!
23 Jene dagegen, wenn sie nicht im Unglauben verharren, werden wieder eingepfropft werden; denn Gott vermag sie wohl wieder einzupfropfen.
24 Denn wenn du aus dem von Natur wilden Ölbaum herausgeschnitten und gegen die Natur in den edlen Ölbaum eingepfropft worden bist, wie viel eher können diese, die natürlichen [Zweige], wieder in ihren eigenen Ölbaum eingepfropft werden!

13 Most pedig hozzátok szólok, akik nem vagytok zsidók. Mivel Isten engem az Izráelen kívüli népekhez küldött, teljes erőmmel arra törekszem, hogy a szolgálatomat minél sikeresebben végezzem. 14 Közben állandóan abban reménykedem, hogy így féltékennyé tudom tenni a saját népemet, és néhányat közülük is elvezethetek az üdvösségre. 15 Mert ha az, hogy Isten elfordult népemtől, azt eredményezte, hogy kibékült a többi néppel, akkor mi lesz abból, ha ismét kegyelemmel fordul hozzájuk, és magához fogadja őket? Bizony, olyan lesz az, mint a feltámadás a halálból!
16 Ha az aratás kezdetén Istennek szentelik az első kévét, akkor szent lesz az abból készült tészta is. Hasonlóképpen, ha a fa gyökerei szentek, akkor az ágak is azok.
17 Olyan ez, mint mikor a nemes olajfa ágai közül néhányat letörnek, titeket pedig, akik az Izráelen kívüli népek közül jöttetek, és így a „vadolajfa ágai” vagytok, beoltanak a letört ágak helyére. Így most már ti is részesültök mindabból a jóból, amit a nemes fa gyökere nyújt. 18 De ne gondoljátok, hogy különbek vagytok, mint a letört ágak! Ha pedig jobbnak képzelitek magatokat, jusson eszetekbe: nem ti tápláljátok a gyökeret, hanem a gyökér titeket! 19 Lehet, hogy így gondolkoztok: „Azért törték le az ágakat, hogy minket beoltsanak az olajfába.” 20 Ez igaz, de gondoljátok meg, hogy azokat a hitetlenségük miatt törték le, és ti is csak a hitetek által maradhattok meg. Ezért ne legyetek büszkék, hanem istenfélők! 21 Mert ha Isten nem kímélte meg az olajfa saját ágait a hitetlenségük miatt, akkor titeket sem fog kímélni, ha nem hisztek.
22 Ismerjétek fel azért, hogy Isten nemcsak jóságos, hanem szigorú is! Szigorú azokhoz, akik elestek, hozzátok viszont mindaddig jó, amíg megmaradtok Isten jóságában. Ha nem, akkor titeket is letör arról a fáról, mint azokat az előző ágakat. 23 Ugyanakkor, ha Izráel népe már nem marad tovább a hitetlenségben, akkor Isten újra beolthatja őket a saját fájukba. Isten meg tudja tenni, hogy újra beoltsa őket. 24 Nem természetes, hogy a vadolajfa ágát beoltsák a szelíd olajfába. Ti, akik az Izráelen kívüli népek közül származtok, valóban olyanok vagytok, mint a vadolajfa ágai. Isten mégis beoltott benneteket a szelíd olajfába. Gondoljátok meg, mennyivel inkább természetes, ha a szelíd olajfa letört ágait ismét beoltják a saját fájukba! Hiszen ezeknek az ágaknak a természet rendje szerint ott a helyük!

13 Je m’adresse particulièrement ici à vous qui êtes d’origine païenne : dans la mesure même où je suis l’apôtre des non-Juifs, je me fais une idée d’autant plus haute de mon ministère 14 que je parviendrai peut-être, en l’exerçant, à rendre jaloux ceux de mon peuple et à en conduire ainsi quelques-uns au salut. 15 Car si leur mise à l’écart a entraîné la réconciliation du monde, quel sera l’effet de leur réintégration ? Rien de moins qu’une résurrection d’entre les morts ! 16 En effet, si les prémices du pain offert à Dieu sont consacrées, toute la pâte l’est aussi. Si la racine est consacrée, les branches le sont aussi[a].
17 Ainsi en est-il d’Israël : quelques branches ont été coupées. Et toi qui, par ton origine païenne, étais comme un rameau d’olivier sauvage, tu as été greffé parmi les branches restantes, et voici que tu as part avec elles à la sève qui monte de la racine de l’olivier cultivé. 18 Ne te mets pas, pour autant, à te vanter aux dépens des branches coupées[b]. Et si tu es tenté par un tel orgueil, souviens-toi que ce n’est pas toi qui portes la racine, c’est elle qui te porte !
19 Peut-être vas-tu dire : si des branches ont été coupées, c’est pour que je puisse être greffé. 20 Bien ! Mais elles ont été coupées à cause de leur incrédulité ; et toi, c’est à cause de ta foi que tu tiens. Ne sois donc pas orgueilleux ! Sois plutôt sur tes gardes ! 21 Car si Dieu n’a pas épargné les branches naturelles, il ne t’épargnera pas non plus[c]. 22 Considère donc, à la fois, la bonté et la sévérité de Dieu : sévérité à l’égard de ceux qui sont tombés, bonté à ton égard aussi longtemps que tu t’attaches à cette bonté. Sinon, toi aussi, tu seras retranché.
23 En ce qui concerne les Israélites, s’ils ne demeurent pas dans leur incrédulité, ils seront regreffés. Car Dieu a le pouvoir de les greffer de nouveau. 24 En effet, toi, tu as été coupé de l’olivier sauvage auquel tu appartenais par ta nature, pour être greffé, contrairement à ta nature, sur l’olivier cultivé : à combien plus forte raison les branches qui proviennent de cet olivier seront-elles greffées sur lui !
