⁹ For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life^(A) so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.^(B)

¹⁰ You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister^[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt?^(C) For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.^(D)

¹¹ “Men of Galilee,”^(A) they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back^(B) in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

⁴² He commanded us to preach to the people^(A) and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.^(B)

⁴⁰ “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. ⁴¹ The Son of Man^(A) will send out his angels,^(B) and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. ⁴² They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.^(C)

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned,^(A) but sent them to hell,^[a] putting them in chains of darkness^[b] to be held for judgment;^(B)
