Psalm 27:4-6

New International Version

⁴One thing^(A) I ask from the Lord,
    this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,^(B)
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
    and to seek him in his temple.
⁵For in the day of trouble^(C)
    he will keep me safe^(D) in his dwelling;
he will hide me^(E) in the shelter of his sacred tent
    and set me high upon a rock.^(F)

⁶Then my head will be exalted^(G)
above the enemies who surround me;^(H)
at his sacred tent I will sacrifice^(I) with shouts of joy;^(J)
I will sing^(K) and make music^(L) to the Lord.

Mark 1:9-18

New International Version

The Baptism and Testing of Jesus^(A)^(B)

⁹At that time Jesus came from Nazareth^(C) in Galilee and was baptized by John^(D) in the Jordan. ¹⁰Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.^(E) ¹¹And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son,^(F) whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”^(G)

¹²At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, ¹³and he was in the wilderness forty days,^(H) being tempted^[a] by Satan.^(I) He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

Jesus Announces the Good News^(J)

¹⁴After John^(K) was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee,^(L) proclaiming the good news of God.^(M) ¹⁵“The time has come,”^(N) he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe^(O) the good news!”^(P)

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

¹⁶As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ¹⁷“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” ¹⁸At once they left their nets and followed him.^(Q)
