I say to the Lord, “You are my God.”(A)
    Hear, Lord, my cry for mercy.(B)
Sovereign Lord,(C) my strong deliverer,
    you shield my head in the day of battle.
Do not grant the wicked(D) their desires, Lord;
    do not let their plans succeed.

Those who surround me proudly rear their heads;
    may the mischief of their lips engulf them.(E)
10 May burning coals fall on them;
    may they be thrown into the fire,(F)
    into miry pits, never to rise.
11 May slanderers not be established in the land;
    may disaster hunt down the violent.(G)

12 I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor(H)
    and upholds the cause(I) of the needy.(J)
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name,(K)
    and the upright will live(L) in your presence.(M)

Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age.
