Psalm 27

A Psalm of David.

27 The Lord is my ^(A)light and my ^(B)salvation;
Whom should I fear?
The Lord is the ^[a]^(C)defense of my life;
^(D)Whom should I dread?
²When evildoers came upon me to ^(E)devour my flesh,
My adversaries and my enemies, they ^(F)stumbled and fell.
³If an ^(G)army encamps against me,
My heart will not fear;
If war arises against me,
In spite of this I am ^(H)confident.

⁴^(I)One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:
That I may ^(J)dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
To behold ^(K)the ^[b]beauty of the Lord
And to ^[c]^(L)meditate in His temple.
⁵For on the ^(M)day of trouble He will ^(N)conceal me in His ^[d]tabernacle;
He will ^(O)hide me in the secret place of His tent;
He will ^(P)lift me up on a rock.
⁶And now ^(Q)my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
And I will offer ^(R)sacrifices in His tent ^[e]with shouts of joy;
I will ^(S)sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

⁷^(T)Hear, Lord, when I cry with my voice,
And be gracious to me and ^(U)answer me.
⁸When You said, “^(V)Seek My face,” my heart said to You,
“^(W)I shall seek Your face, Lord.”
⁹^(X)Do not hide Your face from me,
Do not turn Your servant away in ^(Y)anger;
You have been ^(Z)my help;
^(AA)Do not abandon me nor ^(AB)forsake me,
God of my salvation!
¹⁰^[f]For my father and ^(AC)my mother have forsaken me,
But ^(AD)the Lord will take me up.

¹¹^(AE)Teach me Your way, Lord,
And lead me on a ^(AF)level path
Because of my enemies.
¹²Do not turn me over to the ^[g]^(AG)desire of my enemies,
For ^(AH)false witnesses have risen against me,
And the violent ^(AI)witness.
¹³I certainly believed that I would see the ^(AJ)goodness of the Lord
In the ^(AK)land of the living.
¹⁴^(AL)Wait for the Lord;
Be ^(AM)strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord.

57 Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me,
For my soul ^(A)takes refuge in You;
And in the ^(B)shadow of Your wings I will take refuge
Until destruction ^(C)passes by.
²I will cry to God Most High,
To God who ^(D)accomplishes all things for me.
³He will ^(E)send from heaven and save me;
He rebukes the one who ^[d]^(F)tramples upon me. Selah
God will send His ^[e]^(G)favor and His truth.

⁴My soul is among ^(H)lions;
I must lie among those who devour,
Among sons of mankind whose ^(I)teeth are spears and arrows,
And their ^(J)tongue is a sharp sword.
⁵^(K)Be exalted above the heavens, God;
May Your glory be above all the earth.
⁶They have prepared a ^(L)net for my steps;
My soul is ^(M)bowed down;
They ^(N)dug a pit before me;
They themselves have ^(O)fallen into the midst of it. Selah

⁷^(P)My ^(Q)heart is steadfast, God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
⁸Awake, ^(R)my glory!
Awake, ^(S)harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
⁹^(T)I will praise You, Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to You among the ^[f]nations.
¹⁰For Your ^(U)goodness is great to the heavens
And Your ^[g]truth to the clouds.
¹¹^(V)Be exalted above the heavens, God;

More than all the other dwelling places of Jacob.
³^(C)Glorious things are spoken of you,

⁴“I shall mention ^[a]^(E)Rahab and Babylon ^[b]among those who know Me;
Behold, Philistia and ^(F)Tyre with ^[c]^(G)Cush:
‘This one was born there.’”
⁵But of Zion it will be said, “This one and that one were born in her”;
And the Most High Himself will ^(H)establish her.
⁶The Lord will count when He ^(I)registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah
⁷Then those who ^(J)sing as well as those who ^[d]^(K)play the flutes will say,
“All my ^(L)springs of joy are in you.”

For ^(A)it is good to sing praises to our God;

He ^(D)gathers the outcasts of Israel.

27 ^(A)Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you ^(B)do not know what a day may bring.
²Let ^(C)another praise you, and not your own mouth;
A stranger, and not your own lips.
³A stone is heavy and the sand weighty,
But the provocation of a fool is heavier than both of them.
⁴Wrath is fierce and anger is a flood,
But ^(D)who can stand before jealousy?
⁵Better is ^(E)open rebuke
Than love that is concealed.
⁶Faithful are the ^(F)wounds of a friend,
But ^[a]deceitful are the ^(G)kisses of an enemy.
⁷A satisfied ^[b]person ^[c]despises honey,
But to a hungry ^[d]person any bitter thing is sweet.
⁸Like a ^(H)bird that wanders from its nest,
So is a person who ^(I)wanders from his ^[e]home.
⁹^(J)Oil and perfume make the heart glad,
And a ^[f]person’s advice is sweet to his friend.
¹⁰Do not abandon your ^(K)friend or ^(L)your father’s friend,
And do not go to your brother’s house on the day of your disaster;
Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother far away.
¹¹^(M)Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad,
So that I may ^(N)reply to one who taunts me.
¹²A prudent person sees evil and hides himself;
But the naive proceed, and pay the penalty.
¹³^(O)Take his garment when he becomes a guarantor for a stranger;
And for a foreign woman seize a pledge from him.
¹⁴^(P)One who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning,
It will be considered a curse to him.
¹⁵A ^(Q)constant dripping on a day of steady rain
And a contentious woman are alike;
¹⁶He who would ^[g]restrain her ^[h]restrains the wind,
And ^[i]grasps oil with his right hand.
¹⁷As iron sharpens iron,
So one person sharpens another.
¹⁸One who tends the ^(R)fig tree will eat its fruit,
And one who ^(S)cares for his master will be honored.
¹⁹As in water a face reflects the face,
So the heart of a person reflects the person.
²⁰^[j]^(T)Sheol and ^[k]Abaddon are ^(U)never satisfied,
Nor are the ^(V)eyes of a person ever satisfied.
²¹The ^(W)crucible is for silver and the furnace for gold,
And each ^(X)is tested by the praise accorded him.
²²Though you ^(Y)pound the fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain,
His foolishness still will not leave him.

²³^(Z)Know well the ^[l]condition of your flocks,
And pay attention to your herds;
²⁴For riches are not forever,
Nor does a ^(AA)crown endure to all generations.
²⁵When the grass disappears, the new growth is seen,
And the herbs of the mountains are ^(AB)gathered in,
²⁶The lambs will be for your clothing,
And the goats will bring the price of a field,
²⁷And there will be enough goats’ milk for your food,
For the food of your household,
And sustenance for your attendants.
