Mem

97 Oh how (A)I love your law!
    It is my (B)meditation all the day.
98 Your commandment makes me (C)wiser than my enemies,
    for it is ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
    for (D)your testimonies are my meditation.
100 I understand more than (E)the aged,[a]
    for I (F)keep your precepts.
101 I (G)hold back my feet from every evil way,
    in order to keep your word.
102 I do not turn aside from your rules,
    for you have taught me.
103 How (H)sweet are your words to my taste,
    sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I get understanding;
    therefore (I)I hate every false way.

Nun

105 (J)Your word is a lamp to my feet
    and a light to my path.
106 I have (K)sworn an oath and confirmed it,
    to keep your (L)righteous rules.
107 I am severely (M)afflicted;
    (N)give me life, O Lord, according to your word!
108 Accept (O)my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord,
    and (P)teach me your rules.
109 I hold my life (Q)in my hand continually,
    but I do not (R)forget your law.
110 The wicked have laid (S)a snare for me,
    but (T)I do not stray from your precepts.
111 Your testimonies are (U)my heritage forever,
    for they are (V)the joy of my heart.
112 I (W)incline my heart to perform your statutes
    forever, (X)to the end.[b]

113 I hate (Y)the double-minded,
    but I love (Z)your law.
114 You are my (AA)hiding place and my (AB)shield;
    I (AC)hope in your word.
115 (AD)Depart from me, you evildoers,
    that I may (AE)keep the commandments of my God.
116 Uphold me (AF)according to your promise, that I may live,
    and let me not be (AG)put to shame in my (AH)hope!
117 (AI)Hold me up, that I may be safe
    and have regard for your statutes continually!
118 You (AJ)spurn all who (AK)go astray from your statutes,
    for their cunning is in vain.
119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like (AL)dross,
    therefore (AM)I love your testimonies.
120 My flesh (AN)trembles for fear of you,
    and I am afraid of your judgments.

  2. Psalm 119:112 Or statutes; the reward is eternal

15 Truth is lacking,
    and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.

The Lord saw it, and it displeased him[a]
    that there was no justice.
16 (A)He saw that there was no man,
    and wondered that there was no one to intercede;
then his own arm brought him salvation,
    and his righteousness upheld him.
17 (B)He put on righteousness as a breastplate,
    and a helmet of salvation on his head;
he put on garments of vengeance for clothing,
    and wrapped himself in (C)zeal as a cloak.
18 (D)According to their deeds, so will he repay,
    wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies;
    (E)to the coastlands he will render repayment.
19 (F)So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west,
    and his glory from the rising of the sun;
(G)for he will come like a rushing stream,[b]
    which the wind of the Lord drives.

20 (H)“And (I)a Redeemer will come to Zion,
    to those in Jacob who turn from transgression,” declares the Lord.

21 “And as for me, (J)this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit that is upon you, (K)and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children's offspring,” says the Lord, “from this time forth and forevermore.”

15 You are aware that (A)all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 May the Lord grant mercy to (B)the household of Onesiphorus, for he often (C)refreshed me and was not ashamed of (D)my chains, 17 but when he arrived in Rome (E)he searched for me earnestly and found me— 18 may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on (F)that day!—and you well know all the service he (G)rendered at Ephesus.

A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus

You then, (H)my child, (I)be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and (J)what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses (K)entrust to faithful men,[a] (L)who will be able to teach others also. (M)Share in suffering as (N)a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier (O)gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. (P)An athlete is not (Q)crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is (R)the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

Remember Jesus Christ, (S)risen from the dead, the (T)offspring of David, (U)as preached in my gospel, (V)for which I am suffering, (W)bound with chains as a criminal. But (X)the word of God is not bound! 10 Therefore (Y)I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain (Z)the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with (AA)eternal glory. 11 The saying is (AB)trustworthy, for:

(AC)If we have died with him, we will also (AD)live with him;
12 (AE)if we endure, we will also reign with him;
(AF)if we deny him, he also will deny us;
13 (AG)if we are faithless, (AH)he remains faithful—

for (AI)he cannot deny himself.

Teaching About Divorce

10 (A)And he left there and went (B)to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again. And again, as was his custom, he taught them.

And Pharisees came up and in order (C)to test him asked, (D)“Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, (E)“Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” And Jesus said to them, “Because of your (F)hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But (G)from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them (H)male and female.’ (I)‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,[a] and (J)the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. (K)What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, (L)“Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and (M)if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

Let the Children Come to Me

13 (N)And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples (O)rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, (P)“Let the children come to me; (Q)do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 (R)Truly, I say to you, whoever does not (S)receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” 16 And (T)he took them in his arms and blessed them, (U)laying his hands on them.
