Psalm 87

A song of the sons of Korah.

He laid His foundation on the sacred mountains.
The Eternal loves Zion’s gates;
    He prefers it over any other place where Jacob’s descendants make their homes.
Spectacular things are said about you,
    O Jerusalem, city of the True God.

[pause][a]

God says, “I tell of some who know Me in Egypt[b] and Babylon;
    behold, My people are in Philistia, Tyre, and Ethiopia[c] too:
    ‘This person was born there.’”

It is said of Zion,
    “This person and that person were born in her.”
    The Most High God has established that city and makes her strong.
When keeping track of His people, the Eternal surely notices,
    “This one was born in Zion.”

[pause]

Those who sing and those who dance will say together,
    “All my fountains of joy are in You.”

Notas al pie

  1. 87:3 Literally, selah, likely a musical direction from a Hebrew root meaning “to lift up”
  2. 87:4 Hebrew, Rahab, a poetic reference to Egypt
  3. 87:4 Hebrew, Cush

17 Eternal One: Then you will know that I am the Eternal, your God,
        and I live in Zion, My sacred mountain.
    Jerusalem will be My holy city;
        never again will foreign invaders infiltrate it.

18 On that great day, the Eternal will provide:
    Sweet wine will drip down from the mountains.
Fresh milk will pour down from the hills.
    Clear water will run through Judah’s ravines.
A fountain will bubble up from the Eternal’s temple
    and water the arid stream bed of Shittim.
19 Egypt will become a wasteland and Edom a lonely desert,
    because they violently attacked the people of Judah
And murdered the innocent in Israel.
20 But as for Judah, it will always be full of people.

Eternal One: Jerusalem, too, will endure for generations to come.

28 But I will tell you a story, and you can tell Me what you make of it: There was a man who had two sons. He said to his first son,

Father: Go and work in the vineyard today.

First Son: 29 No, I will not.

But later the first son changed his mind and went. 30 Then the father went to his second son.

Father: Go and work in the vineyard today.

Second Son: Of course, Father.

But then he did not go. 31 So which of the sons did what the father wanted?

Chief Priests and Elders (answering at once): The first.

Jesus: I tell you this: the tax collectors and prostitutes will enter the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 John came to show you the straight path, the path to righteousness. You did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. Even as you saw the prostitutes and the tax collectors forgiven and washed clean, finding their footing on the straight path to righteousness, still you did not change your ways and believe.
