Jesus Begins His Ministry

¹² Now when Jesus heard that ^(A)John had been taken into custody, ^(B)He withdrew into Galilee; ¹³ and leaving Nazareth, He came and ^(C)settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. ¹⁴ This happened so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled:

²³ Therefore, if you are ^(A)presenting your ^[a]offering at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, ²⁴ leave your ^[b]offering there before the altar and go; first be ^(B)reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your ^[c]offering. ^25 (C)[d]Come to good terms with your accuser quickly, while you are with him on the way to court, so that your accuser will not hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you will not be thrown into prison.

²³ But if ^(A)your eye is ^[a]bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

²⁴ “^(B)No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and ^[b](C)wealth.

The Cure for Anxiety

²⁵ “^(D)For this reason I say to you, ^[c]do not be ^(E)worried about your ^[d]life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? ^26 (F)Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they?

¹² but ^(A)the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into ^(B)the outer darkness; in that place ^(C)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” ¹³ And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; ^[a]it shall be done for you ^(D)as you have believed.” And the ^[b]servant was healed at that very ^[c]moment.

Peter’s Mother-in-law and Many Others Healed

^14 (E)When Jesus came into Peter’s ^[d]home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever. ¹⁵ And He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and ^[e]waited on Him.

¹⁰ Now when Jesus heard this, He was amazed and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith ^[a]with anyone in Israel.

¹³ Then the king said to the servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him into ^(A)the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth in that place.’ ¹⁴ For many are ^[a](B)called, but few are ^(C)chosen.”

³⁰ And throw the worthless slave into ^(A)the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The Judgment

³¹ “But when ^(B)the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then ^(C)He will sit on His glorious throne.

³³ “^(A)No one lights a lamp and puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. ^34 (B)Your eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is ^[a]clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is ^[b]bad, your body also is full of darkness. ³⁵ So watch out that the light in you is not darkness. ³⁶ Therefore if your whole body is full of light, without any dark part, it will be wholly illuminated, as when the lamp illuminates you with its light.”
