17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven(A) has come near!”

18 As(B) He was walking along the Sea of Galilee,(C) He saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, since they were fishermen. 19 “Follow Me,” He told them, “and I will make you fish for[a] people!” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.

9 As Jesus went on from there,(A) He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office, and He said to him, “Follow Me!” So he got up and followed Him.(B)
10 While He was reclining at the table in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came as guests to eat[a] with Jesus and His disciples.(C) 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”(D)
12 But when He heard this, He said, “Those who are well don’t need a doctor, but the sick do.(E) 13 Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice.(F)[b] For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.”[c]

16 Just then someone came up and asked Him,(A) “Teacher, what good must I do to have eternal life?”(B)
17 “Why do you ask Me about what is good?”[a] He said to him. “There is only One who is good.[b] If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”(C)
18 “Which ones?” he asked Him. Jesus answered:
Do not murder;
do not commit adultery;
do not steal;
do not bear false witness;(D)
19 honor your father and your mother;
and love your neighbor as yourself.(E)[c]
20 “I have kept all these,”[d] the young man told Him. “What do I still lack?”
21 “If you want to be perfect,”[e] Jesus said to him, “go, sell your belongings and give to the poor,(F) and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
22 When the young man heard that command, he went away grieving, because he had many possessions.
