^20 (A)When it was evening, he reclined at table with the twelve.^{[a] 21} And as they were eating, ^(B)he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” ²² And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?” ²³ He answered, ^(C)“He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me. ²⁴ The Son of Man goes ^(D)as it is written of him, but ^(E)woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! ^(F)It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” ²⁵ Judas, who would betray him, answered, “Is it I, ^(G)Rabbi?” He said to him, ^(H)“You have said so.”

Institution of the Lord's Supper

^26 (I)Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and ^(J)after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; ^(K)this is my body.” ²⁷ And he took a cup, and when he ^(L)had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, ²⁸ for ^(M)this is my ^(N)blood of the^[b] covenant, which is poured out for ^(O)many ^(P)for the forgiveness of sins. ²⁹ I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you ^(Q)in my Father's kingdom.”

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

^30 (R)And when they had sung a hymn, ^(S)they went out to ^(T)the Mount of Olives.

^19 (A)And he took bread, and ^(B)when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, ^(C)“This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” ²⁰ And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, ^(D)“This cup that is poured out for you is ^(E)the new ^(F)covenant in my blood.^{[a] 21 (G)}But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is ^(H)with me on the table. ²² For the Son of Man goes ^(I)as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” ²³ And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.

One of You Will Betray Me

²¹ After saying these things, ^(A)Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, ^(B)“Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(C)one of you will betray me.” ^22 (D)The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. ^23 (E)One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table ^(F)at Jesus' side,^{[a] 24} so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus^[b] of whom he was speaking. ^25 (G)So that disciple, ^(H)leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” ²⁶ Jesus answered, ^(I)“It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread ^(J)when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, ^(K)he gave it to Judas, ^(L)the son of Simon Iscariot. ²⁷ Then after he had taken the morsel, ^(M)Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, ^(N)“What you are going to do, do quickly.” ²⁸ Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. ²⁹ Some thought that, ^(O)because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need ^(P)for the feast,” or that he should ^(Q)give something to the poor.
