The Hatred of the World

^18 (A)“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.

¹¹ To the present hour ^(A)we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and ^(B)buffeted and ^(C)homeless, ¹² and we ^(D)labor, working with our own hands. ^(E)When reviled, we bless; ^(F)when persecuted, we endure; ¹³ when slandered, we entreat. ^(G)We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, ^(H)the refuse of all things.

¹² Indeed, all who desire to ^(A)live a godly life in Christ Jesus ^(B)will be persecuted, ¹³ while ^(C)evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and ^(D)being deceived.

^4 (A)You adulterous people!^[a] Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? ^(B)Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
