Job 26:7-14

New International Version

⁷He spreads out the northern skies^(A) over empty space;
    he suspends the earth over nothing.^(B)
⁸He wraps up the waters^(C) in his clouds,^(D)
    yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.
⁹He covers the face of the full moon,
    spreading his clouds^(E) over it.
¹⁰He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters^(F)
    for a boundary between light and darkness.^(G)
¹¹The pillars of the heavens quake,^(H)
    aghast at his rebuke.
¹²By his power he churned up the sea;^(I)
    by his wisdom^(J) he cut Rahab^(K) to pieces.
¹³By his breath the skies^(L) became fair;
    his hand pierced the gliding serpent.^(M)
¹⁴And these are but the outer fringe of his works;
    how faint the whisper^(N) we hear of him!^(O)
    Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”^(P)

Ecclesiastes 1:13-17

New International Version

¹³I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens.^(A) What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind!^(B) ¹⁴I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.^(C)

¹⁵What is crooked cannot be straightened;^(D)
what is lacking cannot be counted.

¹⁶I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me;^(E) I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.” ¹⁷Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom,^(F) and also of madness and folly,^(G) but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.
