Jeremiah 15:6-8
New Living Translation
6 You have abandoned me
and turned your back on me,”
says the Lord.
“Therefore, I will raise my fist to destroy you.
I am tired of always giving you another chance.
7 I will winnow you like grain at the gates of your cities
and take away the children you hold dear.
I will destroy my own people,
because they refuse to change their evil ways.
8 There will be more widows
than the grains of sand on the seashore.
At noontime I will bring a destroyer
against the mothers of young men.
I will cause anguish and terror
to come upon them suddenly.
Jeremiah 15:6-8
English Standard Version
6 (A)You have rejected me, declares the Lord;
(B)you keep going backward,
so I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you—
(C)I am weary of relenting.
7 (D)I have winnowed them with (E)a winnowing fork
in the gates of the land;
I have bereaved them; I have destroyed my people;
(F)they did not turn from their ways.
8 I have made their widows more in number
than (G)the sand of the seas;
I have brought against the mothers of young men
a destroyer at noonday;
I have made anguish and terror
fall upon them suddenly.
Jeremiah 16:10-13
New Living Translation
10 “When you tell the people all these things, they will ask, ‘Why has the Lord decreed such terrible things against us? What have we done to deserve such treatment? What is our sin against the Lord our God?’
11 “Then you will give them the Lord’s reply: ‘It is because your ancestors were unfaithful to me. They worshiped other gods and served them. They abandoned me and did not obey my word. 12 And you are even worse than your ancestors! You stubbornly follow your own evil desires and refuse to listen to me. 13 So I will throw you out of this land and send you into a foreign land where you and your ancestors have never been. There you can worship idols day and night—and I will grant you no favors!’

10 “And when you tell this people all these words, and they say to you, (A)‘Why has the Lord pronounced all this great evil against us? What is our iniquity? What is the sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?’ 11 then you shall say to them: (B)‘Because your fathers have forsaken me, declares the Lord, and (C)have gone after other gods and have served and worshiped them, and have forsaken me and have not kept my law, 12 and because (D)you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, (E)every one of you follows his stubborn, evil will, refusing to listen to me. 13 Therefore (F)I will hurl you out of this land into (G)a land that neither you nor your fathers have known, (H)and there you shall serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’
