¹⁷ Therefore, in all things He ^[a]had ^(A)to be made like His brothers so that He might ^(B)become a merciful and faithful ^(C)high priest in ^(D)things pertaining to God, to ^(E)make ^[b]propitiation for the sins of the people.

Jesus Our High Priest

3 Therefore, ^(A)holy brothers and sisters, partakers of a ^(B)heavenly calling, consider ^(C)the Apostle and ^(D)High Priest of our ^(E)confession: Jesus;

¹⁴ Therefore, since we have a great ^(A)high priest who has ^(B)passed through the heavens, Jesus ^(C)the Son of God, let’s hold firmly to our ^(D)confession. ¹⁵ For we do not have ^(E)a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been ^(F)tempted in all things just as we are, yet ^(G)without sin.

7 For this ^(A)Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the ^(B)Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

³ Without father, without mother, ^(A)without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like ^(B)the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.

¹⁵ And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek,

²¹ (for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him,
