² Then God said, “Take your son^(A), your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah.^(B) Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering^(C) on a mountain I will show you.^(D)”

⁵ Abraham left everything he owned to Isaac.^{(A) 6} But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines^(B) and sent them away from his son Isaac^(C) to the land of the east.^(D)

³ Stay in this land for a while,^(A) and I will be with you^(B) and will bless you.^(C) For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands^(D) and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.^(E)

⁷ Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”^[a](A)
