³⁰ “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall^(A) and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.^(B)

²⁸ “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to deliver you into the hands^(A) of those you hate, to those you turned away from in disgust. ²⁹ They will deal with you in hatred and take away everything you have worked for. They will leave you stark naked,^(B) and the shame of your prostitution will be exposed.^(C) Your lewdness^(D) and promiscuity^{(E) 30} have brought this on you, because you lusted after the nations and defiled yourself with their idols.^(F)

²⁰ The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent^(A) of the work of their hands;^(B) they did not stop worshiping demons,^(C) and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk.^{(D) 21} Nor did they repent^(E) of their murders, their magic arts,^(F) their sexual immorality^(G) or their thefts.
