Moses on Mount Sinai
12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up the mountain to me, and while you are here, I will give you two stone tablets which contain all the laws that I have written for the instruction of the people.” 13 Moses and his helper Joshua got ready, and Moses began[a] to go up the holy mountain. 14 Moses said to the leaders, “Wait here in the camp for us until we come back. Aaron and Hur are here with you; and so whoever has a dispute to settle can go to them.”
15 Moses went up Mount Sinai, and a cloud covered it. 16-17 The dazzling light of the Lord's presence came down on the mountain. To the Israelites the light looked like a fire burning on top of the mountain. The cloud covered the mountain for six days, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from the cloud. 18 (A)Moses went on up the mountain into the cloud. There he stayed for forty days and nights.

12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone(A) with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”
13 Then Moses set out with Joshua(B) his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain(C) of God. 14 He said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur(D) are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute(E) can go to them.”
15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud(F) covered it, 16 and the glory(G) of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai.(H) For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud.(I) 17 To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire(J) on top of the mountain. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty(K) days and forty nights.(L)

Eternal One (to Moses): 12 Come up the mountain to Me and stay here with Me for a while. I will give you stone tablets inscribed with My law and commandments in order to provide instruction and guidance for the people.
13 So Moses and his assistant, Joshua, got up and began the long climb up toward the summit of the mountain of God.
Moses (to the elders): 14 Wait here for our return. Aaron and Hur will stay with you. If anyone has a complaint, then they can speak to them.
15-16 Moses[a] made his way up the mountain. A thick cloud blanketed the mountain because the Eternal’s glory had settled upon it. The cloud stayed there for six days; and when the seventh day arrived, the Eternal spoke to Moses from the cloud.
17 For the Israelites below, the Eternal’s glory appeared to be a consuming fire on the top of the mountain. 18 As Moses walked further toward the top, he was swallowed by the cloud of God’s glory, and he remained there for a total of 40 days and 40 nights.
