⁴ However, there need be no poor people among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless^(A) you, ⁵ if only you fully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow^(B) all these commands I am giving you today. ⁶ For the Lord your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you.^(C)

Blessings for Obedience

28 If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow^(A) all his commands^(B) I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.^{(C) 2} All these blessings will come on you^(D) and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God:

¹² The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse^(A) of his bounty,^(B) to send rain^(C) on your land in season and to bless^(D) all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.^(E)

Curses for Disobedience

¹⁵ However, if you do not obey^(A) the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today,^(B) all these curses will come on you and overtake you:^(C)

⁴³ The foreigners who reside among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower.^{(A) 44} They will lend to you, but you will not lend to them.^(B) They will be the head, but you will be the tail.^(C)

⁴⁵ All these curses will come on you. They will pursue you and overtake you^(D) until you are destroyed,^(E) because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you.

Love Fulfills the Law

⁸ Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.^(A)

²³ You were bought at a price;^(A) do not become slaves of human beings.
