Then this Daniel began distinguishing himself [b]among the commissioners and satraps because [c]he possessed an (C)extraordinary spirit, and the king intended to appoint him over the (D)entire kingdom. Then the commissioners and satraps began (E)trying to find a ground of accusation against Daniel regarding [d]government affairs; but they could find (F)no ground of accusation or evidence of corruption, because he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption was to be found in him. Then these men said, “We will not find any ground of accusation against this Daniel unless we find it against him regarding the (G)law of his God.”

with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel.(A) The satraps were made accountable(B) to them so that the king might not suffer loss. Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

In order to make sure that his government was run properly, Darius put three other officials in charge of the governors. One of these officials was Daniel. And he did his work so much better than the other governors and officials that the king decided to let him govern the whole kingdom.

The other men tried to find something wrong with the way Daniel did his work for the king. But they could not accuse him of anything wrong, because he was honest and faithful and did everything he was supposed to do. Finally, they said to one another, “We will never be able to bring any charge against Daniel, unless it has to do with his religion.”
