⁴² And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching,^(A) to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.^(B)

⁴³ Then fear came over everyone, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles.^{(C) 44} Now all the believers were together and held all things in common.^{(D) 45} They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as anyone had a need.^{[a] 46} Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude,^{(E) 47} praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them^[b] those who were being saved.^(F)

²³ For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you:^(A) On the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, ²⁴ gave thanks, broke it, and said,^[a] “This is My body, which is^[b] for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.”^(B)

²⁵ In the same way, after supper He also took the cup and said, “This cup is the new covenant^(C) established by My blood.^(D) Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” ²⁶ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death^(E) until He comes.^(F)

Self-Examination

²⁷ Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be guilty of sin against the body^[c] and blood of the Lord. ²⁸ So a man should examine himself; in this way he should eat the bread and drink from the cup. ²⁹ For whoever eats and drinks without recognizing the body,^[d] eats and drinks judgment^(G) on himself. ³⁰ This is why many are sick and ill among you, and many have fallen asleep.^(H)
