^6 (A)So Jehoiakim rested with his fathers. Then Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.

The Reign and Captivity of Jehoiachin^(A)

^8 (B)Jehoiachin^[a] was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. ⁹ And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father had done.

Message to Coniah

²⁴ “As I live,” says the Lord, ^(A)“though ^[a]Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, ^(B)were the ^[b]signet on My right hand, yet I would pluck you off; ^25 (C)and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose face you fear—the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of the ^[c]Chaldeans. ^26 (D)So I will cast you out, and your mother who bore you, into another country where you were not born; and there you shall die. ²⁷ But to the land to which they desire to return, there they shall not return.

^10 (A)At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem, and the city ^[a]was besieged. ¹¹ And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, as his servants were besieging it. ^12 (B)Then Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his servants, his princes, and his officers went out to the king of Babylon; and the king of Babylon, ^(C)in the eighth year of his reign, took him prisoner.

¹⁰ At the turn of the year ^(A)King Nebuchadnezzar summoned him and took him to Babylon, ^(B)with the costly articles from the house of the Lord, and made ^(C)Zedekiah,^{[a] [b]}Jehoiakim’s brother, king over Judah and Jerusalem.

The Captivity of Jerusalem

^13 (A)And he carried out from there all the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house, and he ^(B)cut in pieces all the articles of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord, ^(C)as the Lord had said. ¹⁴ Also ^(D)he carried into captivity all Jerusalem: all the captains and all the mighty men of valor, ^(E)ten thousand captives, and ^(F)all the craftsmen and smiths. None remained except ^(G)the poorest people of the land. ¹⁵ And ^(H)he carried Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. The king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the mighty of the land he carried into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon. ^16 (I)All the valiant men, seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths, one thousand, all who were strong and fit for war, these the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with ^(A)some of the articles of ^[a]the house of God, which he carried ^(B)into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; ^(C)and he brought the articles into the treasure house of his god.

Zedekiah Reigns in Judah^(A)

¹⁷ Then ^(B)the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, ^(C)Jehoiachin’s^[a] uncle, king in his place, and ^(D)changed his name to Zedekiah.

^18 (E)Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was ^(F)Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

Zedekiah’s Vain Hope^(A)

37 Now King ^(B)Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
