  11. So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, “Hurry and get out of this place, because the Lord is about to destroy the city!” But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.
  12. Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”
  13. But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.
  14. Then she went off and sat down about a bowshot away, for she thought, “I cannot watch the boy die.” And as she sat there, she began to sob.
  15. Then Abraham complained to Abimelek about a well of water that Abimelek’s servants had seized.
  16. But Abimelek said, “I don’t know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I heard about it only today.”
  17. Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.
  18. When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.
  19. The young woman ran and told her mother’s household about these things.
  20. Then they said, “Let’s call the young woman and ask her about it.”
  21. “Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”
  22. When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.”
  23. That day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. They said, “We’ve found water!”
  24. As soon as Laban heard the news about Jacob, his sister’s son, he hurried to meet him. He embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his home, and there Jacob told him all these things.
  25. Laban answered Jacob, “The women are my daughters, the children are my children, and the flocks are my flocks. All you see is mine. Yet what can I do today about these daughters of mine, or about the children they have borne?
