  17. And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:
  18. I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
  19. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
  20. And quarreling arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time.
  21. Then they turned back and went to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites, as well as the Amorites who were living in Hazezon Tamar.
  22. They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.
  23. A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshkol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.
  24. So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife.
  25. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land.
