  17. And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
  18. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
  19. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?
  20. If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
  21. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
  22. The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.
  23. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
  24. Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear.
  25. If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times.”
