The Seventh Plague: Thunder and Hail
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, “Let my people go, that they may serve me.
-
Then Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven; and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt;
-
Entreat the Lord; for there has been enough of this thunder and hail; I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.”
-
Moses said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will stretch out my hands to the Lord; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail, that you may know that the earth is the Lord’s.
-
So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and stretched out his hands to the Lord; and the thunder and the hail ceased, and the rain no longer poured upon the earth.
-
But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned yet again, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
-
On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.
-
And as the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him in thunder.
-
Now when all the people perceived the thunderings and the lightnings and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled; and they stood afar off,
-
The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; against them he will thunder in heaven. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king, and exalt the power of his anointed.”
-
As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to attack Israel; but the Lord thundered with a mighty voice that day against the Philistines and threw them into confusion; and they were routed before Israel.
-
Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call upon the Lord, that he may send thunder and rain; and you shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the Lord, in asking for yourselves a king.”
-
So Samuel called upon the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.
-
The Lord thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his voice.
-
Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways; and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?”
-
when he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder;
-
Can any one understand the spreading of the clouds, the thunderings of his pavilion?
-
Hearken to the thunder of his voice and the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
-
After it his voice roars; he thunders with his majestic voice and he does not restrain the lightnings when his voice is heard.
-
God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things which we cannot comprehend.
-
“Who has cleft a channel for the torrents of rain, and a way for the thunderbolt,
-
When the trumpet sounds, he says ‘Aha!’ He smells the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
-
Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
-
The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice, hailstones and coals of fire.
-
The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, upon many waters.
