  1. When Peleg had lived 30 years, he became the father of Reu.
  2. And after he became the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
  3. When Reu had lived 32 years, he became the father of Serug.

  11. These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.

  14. When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. “Let’s not take his life,” he said.
  15. “Don’t shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.
  16. When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes.
  17. Reuben replied, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood.”
  18. Then Reuben said to his father, “You may put both of my sons to death if I do not bring him back to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him back.”
  19. These are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob.
  20. The sons of Reuben: Hanok, Pallu, Hezron and Karmi.
  21. “Now then, your two sons born to you in Egypt before I came to you here will be reckoned as mine; Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine, just as Reuben and Simeon are mine.
  22. Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength, excelling in honor, excelling in power.
  23. Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah;
  24. When the girls returned to Reuel their father, he asked them, “Why have you returned so early today?”
  25. “And where is he?” Reuel asked his daughters. “Why did you leave him? Invite him to have something to eat.”
