God put all these in the sky to shine on the earth,

·Then the Lord God [or The Lord God had] planted a garden in the east [^Cprobably east of Palestine], in a place called Eden [^Crelated to a word meaning “luxurious”], and put the man he had formed into it.

The Lord God caused every ·beautiful [^Ldesirous to see] tree and every tree that was good for food to grow out of the ground. In the middle of the garden, God put the tree ·that gives life [^Tof life] and also the tree ·that gives the knowledge [^Tof the knowledge] of good and evil.

The Lord God [^Ltook and] put ·the man [or Adam; 1:27] in the garden of Eden to ·care for [or till] it and ·work [take care of; look after] it.

The Lord God said to the ·snake [serpent], “Because you did this, a curse will be put on you. You will be cursed as no other animal, ·tame [beasts; livestock] or ·wild [^Lof the field], will ever be. You will ·crawl [go] on your ·stomach [belly], and you will eat dust all the days of your life.

Then God said to ·the man [or Adam; 1:27], “You listened to what your wife said, and you ate fruit from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat. “·So I will put a curse on [Cursed is] the ground, and you will have to ·work very hard [toil; labor] for your food. In pain you will eat its food all the days of your life.

Then the Lord God said, “Humans have become like one of us [^Creferring to the supernatural heavenly beings, God and the angels]; they know good and evil. We must keep them from [^Lputting forth their hand and taking and] eating some of the fruit from the tree of life, or they will live forever.”

The Lord said to Cain, “No! If anyone kills you, I will ·punish [avenge] that person seven times more.” Then the Lord put a mark [^Cthe nature of the mark is uncertain] on Cain warning anyone who ·met [finds] him not to kill him.

Make an opening around the top of the boat [^Cprobably a window] that is ·eighteen inches [^La cubit] high from the edge of the roof down. Put a door in the side of the boat. Make an ·upper, middle, and lower [^Llower, second, and third] deck in it.

I am putting my ·rainbow [bow; ^Cmay represent God hanging up his weapon after warring against humanity] in the clouds as the sign of the ·agreement [covenant; treaty; 6:18] between me and the earth.

Ham’s Sons

The sons of Ham [^Cancestors of near neighbors and rivals of Israel] were Cush [^Cancestor of the Ethiopians], Mizraim [^Cancestor of the Egyptians], Put [^Cperhaps ancestor of the Libyans], and Canaan.

Abram ·believed [put his trust/faith in] the Lord. And the Lord ·accepted Abram’s faith, and that faith made him right with God [^Tcounted/credited it as righteousness; Rom. 4:3, 9, 22; Gal. 3:6; James 2:23].

Later, when all the water was ·gone [finished] from the ·bag [skin], Hagar put her son under a bush.

Abraham also put seven female lambs ·in front of Abimelech [^Lapart by themselves].

Abimelech asked Abraham, “Why did you put these seven female lambs by themselves?”

Abraham said to his oldest servant [^Lin his house], who was in charge of everything he owned, “Put your hand under my ·leg [^Lthigh; ^Ca euphemism for male genitalia, expressing commitment to keep a promise].

So the servant put his hand under his master’s ·leg [^Lthigh; 24:2] and ·made a promise [swore] to Abraham about this.

·I will say to one of them [^LLet the girl to whom I will say…], ‘Please put your jar down so I can drink.’ Then let her say, ‘Drink, and I will also give water to your camels.’ If that happens, I will know she is the ·right one [the one appointed/selected] for your servant Isaac and that you have shown ·kindness [loyalty] to my master.”

When I asked her, ‘·Who is your father [^LWhose daughter are you]?’ she answered, ‘·My father is [^LThe daughter of] Bethuel son of Milcah and Nahor.’ Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms,

So Abimelech ·warned [commanded] ·everyone [all the people], “Anyone who touches this man or his wife will be put to death.”

So ·Rebekah [^Lhis mother] said to him, “·If your father puts a curse on you, I will accept the blame [^LLet your curse be on me]. Just do what I said. Go get the goats for me.”

She took the best clothes of her older son Esau that were in the house and put them on the younger son Jacob.

She also took the skins of the goats and put them on Jacob’s hands and [^Lthe smoothness of his] neck.

When all the flocks would gather there, ·the shepherds [^Lthey] would roll the stone away from the well and water the sheep. Then they would put the stone back in its place.

He put the ·branches [rods] in front of the flocks at the watering ·places [troughs]. When the animals came to drink, they ·also mated there [^Lwere in heat],
