  1. Pharaoh’s Dreams

    When two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing by the Nile,
  2. After them, seven other cows, ugly and gaunt, came up out of the Nile and stood beside those on the riverbank.
  3. Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “In my dream I was standing on the bank of the Nile,
  4. Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”
  5. But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.
  6. Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it.
  7. But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.”
  8. Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the river. Confront him on the bank of the Nile, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake.
  9. This is what the Lord says: By this you will know that I am the Lord: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood.
  10. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.’”
  11. Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood.
  12. The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt.
  13. And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the river.
  14. The Plague of Frogs

    Seven days passed after the Lord struck the Nile.
  15. The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs.
  16. Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.”
  17. The frogs will leave you and your houses, your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”
  18. The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.
  19. Assyria, the Lord’s Instrument

    In that day the Lord will whistle for flies from the Nile delta in Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria.
  20. also the plants along the Nile, at the mouth of the river. Every sown field along the Nile will become parched, will blow away and be no more.
  21. The fishermen will groan and lament, all who cast hooks into the Nile; those who throw nets on the water will pine away.
  22. On the great waters came the grain of the Shihor; the harvest of the Nile was the revenue of Tyre, and she became the marketplace of the nations.
  23. Till your land as they do along the Nile, Daughter Tarshish, for you no longer have a harbor.
  24. Now why go to Egypt to drink water from the Nile? And why go to Assyria to drink water from the Euphrates?
