  1. So He said to him, “Bring Me a three year old heifer, and a three year old female goat, and a three year old ram, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”
  2. Ordinance of the Red Heifer

    Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
  3. “This is the statute of the law which the Lord has commanded, saying, ‘Speak to the sons of Israel that they bring you an unblemished red heifer in which is no defect and on which a yoke has never been placed.
  4. Then the heifer shall be burned in his sight; its hide and its flesh and its blood, with its refuse, shall be burned.
  5. The priest shall take cedar wood and hyssop and scarlet material and cast it into the midst of the burning heifer.
  6. Now a man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and deposit them outside the camp in a clean place, and the congregation of the sons of Israel shall keep it as water to remove impurity; it is purification from sin.
  7. The one who gathers the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening; and it shall be a perpetual statute to the sons of Israel and to the alien who sojourns among them.
  8. It shall be that the city which is nearest to the slain man, that is, the elders of that city, shall take a heifer of the herd, which has not been worked and which has not pulled in a yoke;
  9. and the elders of that city shall bring the heifer down to a valley with running water, which has not been plowed or sown, and shall break the heifer’s neck there in the valley.
  10. All the elders of that city which is nearest to the slain man shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley;
  11. So the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion?” And he said to them, “If you had not plowed with my heifer, You would not have found out my riddle.”
  12. But Samuel said, “How can I go? When Saul hears of it, he will kill me.” And the Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’
  13. Now in that day a man may keep alive a heifer and a pair of sheep;
  14. “Egypt is a pretty heifer, But a horsefly is coming from the north—it is coming!
  15. “Because you are glad, because you are jubilant, O you who pillage My heritage, Because you skip about like a threshing heifer And neigh like stallions,
  16. Since Israel is stubborn Like a stubborn heifer, Can the Lord now pasture them Like a lamb in a large field?
  17. Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh, But I will come over her fair neck with a yoke; I will harness Ephraim, Judah will plow, Jacob will harrow for himself.
  18. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh,
