  1. Then Samuel brought Saul and his servant into the hall and seated them at the head of those who were invited—about thirty in number.

  14. Esther’s Request to the King

    On the third day Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the palace, in front of the king’s hall. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the hall, facing the entrance.
  15. Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the banquet hall, Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was reclining. The king exclaimed, “Will he even molest the queen while she is with me in the house?” As soon as the word left the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.
  16. Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love.
  17. Then the man brought me to the main hall and measured the jambs; the width of the jambs was six cubits on each side.
  18. The entrance was ten cubits wide, and the projecting walls on each side of it were five cubits wide. He also measured the main hall; it was forty cubits long and twenty cubits wide.

  22. The main hall had a rectangular doorframe, and the one at the front of the Most Holy Place was similar.
  23. Both the main hall and the Most Holy Place had double doors.
  24. And on the doors of the main hall were carved cherubim and palm trees like those carved on the walls, and there was a wooden overhang on the front of the portico.
  25. The queen, hearing the voices of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. “May the king live forever!” she said. “Don’t be alarmed! Don’t look so pale!
