Video: God’s Living Water

Waterfall captured in the video by The John 10:10 ProjectWhile we may take water for granted, no being can live without it. God created this miracle element for us to survive and bring us refreshment. It exists on Earth as vapor (gas) in the atmosphere, as liquid in rivers, streams, and oceans, and as solid in ice. It produces food, offers nourishment, provides cleansing, generates power, supplies recreation, and more. The Bible uses water as an invigorating symbol of God’s justice, salvation, purity, and loving care.

Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst—not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.”

One of the Most Empowering Gifts We Can Give Kids

Rachel Macy StaffordBy Rachel Macy Stafford

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. — Ephesians 4:14-15

Standing in the classroom one day, at the end of another career day talk, looking through the notes written on index cards, it was evident that my honest confessions and vulnerability resonated with the students. An overwhelming number of young people shared the stress and pain of feeling unseen, unheard, and unaccepted for who they are. So many of their index cards gave me a glimpse into the various masks kids today are wearing—masks that I know all too well will only grow heavier as they continue down an unauthentic path.

Alan EhlerHave you considered lately the importance of every decision you make every day? What does the Bible say about the proper way of making decisions? How can you be sure the choices you make are the best ones for your life?

How granular should people be intentional about the decisions they make every day?

Alan Ehler: My research discovered that our brains make millions of decisions a day without requiring conscious effort. Every breath and eye blink requires our brains’ actions. I believe God created us with this quick thinking, intuitive decision making ability so we could save the mental energy and time required for the bigger decisions that affect our future and that of the people we love and lead. Here are a few things to consider when discerning if a decision warrants intentional effort:

It’s OK to Be Strong

Lisa BevereBy Lisa Bevere

Strong is not wrong.

Too often Christian women are associated with weakness rather than strength. Sometimes religion has taught us to hide rather than to rise. It is true that we are called to be meek, but not weak. Meek is best defined as strength under control. Both Moses and Jesus were meek, but not weak. The meek know their strength comes from God. Esther was meek, but she was no weakling. The meek are also the humble because they understand that their strength comes from a higher power. The meek know how and when to fight, but they are not looking for one.

Scripture is replete with music. The book of Psalms is considered by many to be the Bible’s hymnal. With song, Moses and Miriam praised God for their dramatic exit from Egypt. And with his harp, young David soothed the temper of King Saul. Today music and Scripture are an integral and endearing part of our church worship services.

How to Respect Different Viewpoints While Keeping Your Own: An Interview with Timothy Keller and John Inazu

Timothy KellerHow can Christians today interact with people in a way that shows respect to those whose beliefs are radically different but that also remains faithful to the gospel? Bestselling author Timothy Keller and legal scholar John Inazu bring together a range of artists, thinkers, and leaders—such as Lecrae, Tish Harrison Warren, Kristen Deede Johnson, Claude Richard Alexander, Shirley Hoogstra, Sara Groves, Rudy Carrasco, Trillia Newbell, Tom Lin, and Warren Kinghorn to provide a guide to biblical living in a pluralistic, fractured world.

John Inazu

Bible Gateway interviewed Timothy Keller (@timkellernyc) and John Inazu (@JohnInazu) about their book, Uncommon Ground: Living Faithfully in a World of Difference (Thomas Nelson, 2020).

Why is this book necessary?

Timothy Keller and John Inazu: We wrote this book to encourage Christians who are seeking to be gospel witnesses in our deeply divided age. Christians can—and must—continue to engage with those around them, while both respecting differences and maintaining our gospel confidence.

The Abide Bible: Engaging Scripture, Engaging God

Buy your copy of The Abide Bible in the Bible Gateway Store where you'll enjoy low prices every dayYou probably have been told you should read the Bible. It’s an important book. It’s been influential for centuries. And it’s the number-one bestseller year after year.

But has anyone taught you how to read the Bible to achieve maximum spiritual growth in your life (not merely knowledge of biblical people and events)? Engaging Scripture is more than acquiring and cataloging information. Effective Scripture engagement is when you personally interact with the Bible’s stories, poems, songs, history, principles, and lessons so that you discern the text speaking to you by the power of the Holy Spirit, enabling you to get beyond the printed page and hear the voice of God, and discover for yourself the unique claim Jesus Christ is making upon you.
