You might be surprised to know that the origin of the word deadline actually has something to do with real dying. In the early 1900s, it was a physical line painted on the ground around the inside of a prison, measured out 20 feet from the walls. If prisoners crossed this line, they would be shot on the spot. It was literally a line of death.

One new feature that users are enthusiastically calling out is the Bible Book List that drops down under the search bar when you click the down arrow. Each book of the Bible is listed in biblical order and when you select a book, a brief summary phrase (a pericope) for each of that book’s chapters appears in a side window, helping you to quickly narrow your selection of the specific Scripture passage you’re looking for but can’t quite remember its particular chapter and verse number.

The power of belief
Real convictions aren’t just a lot of noise—they accomplish something. Dr. John C. Lennox: It’s intended to recall 1984, the dystopian novel by George Orwell who gave to the English language the idea of Big Brother. The reason for doing that is that we’re already in a world increasingly adopting invasive surveillance techniques that threaten privacy.

The COVID-19 pandemic seems to be causing a paradox of Bible reading for American adults.
According to American Bible Society’s (ABS) report, State of the Bible 2020, the number of American adults considered “Scripture engaged” based on how frequently they read the Bible and its impact on their relationships and choices dropped from 28% to 23% (a loss of 13 million people) between January and June 2020 during the virus outbreak (the survey sampling error is +/-3.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level). The decline in Bible engagement was most notable among women. ABS suggests this could be due in part to increased childcare responsibilities falling to mothers amid shutdowns, job changes, and school closings.

What is conviction? How can we have valid convictions that will give us stability, but also have a proper attitude of tolerance?
“So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter” (2 Thes. 2:15). To almost every church Paul wrote he said “stand firm.” And when he did he meant the collection of beliefs—the core convictions—that he had worked so hard to teach them.
