Bible Gateway’s Visual Verse of the Day Is Now in the King James Version

You can now receive verse memes in the King James Version of the Bible! We’ve identified the most popular Bible verses people from all over the world search for and read on Bible Gateway and designed them into visually colorful and inspirational images.

Each Visual Verse of the Day is from the King James Version (KJV). Here’s a brief history of this classic translation:

In 1604, King James I of England authorized that a new translation of the Bible into English be started. It was finished in 1611, just 85 years after the first translation of the New Testament into English appeared (Tyndale, 1526). The Authorized Version, or King James Version (KJV), quickly became the standard for English-speaking Protestants. Its flowing language and prose rhythm has had a profound influence on the literature of the past 400 years.

Sacred Pace: 4 Steps to Discerning God’s Will in Your Decisions / Step 4 – Get Neutral

God uses these first three steps of a sacred pace to help open our hearts to the vital question: “What do you want me to do, Jesus?” This is so important, because I’ve found that the longest distance in our life with Christ is that 18 inches or so between the mind and heart.

To reach this point, where you actually want what God wants for you more than your own solution, may seem like an odd goal. But the decision to slow your pace until the most subtle desires of your flesh have been graciously neutralized is what perfectly positions you to receive the answers to your prayers: the gift of God’s will!

I call this fourth step “Getting Neutral.” Theologically speaking, it’s called “dying to self,” and it involves letting God work in us to clear out both closets and corners—any place that we might be hiding dysfunction or sin that could keep us from His best.

Jeremy and I had talked about getting married after we both graduated, so I had been anticipating his proposal for about a year. I knew it was coming; I just wasn’t sure when. However, as Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day passed, I started to wonder if he even had a ring or a plan to propose. It wasn’t unlike him to procrastinate, but I was getting a little anxious as the summer drew closer. I wanted to have enough time to find a dreamy dress and plan an epic celebration. I became the cliché girl anxiously waiting for “a ring by spring.” But Jeremy was not cliché, and he was not about to ask me to marry him on a holiday like all the other guys did. I should have known better. March 15 was perfect.

What a scandalous claim! In the original readers’ culture, the claim that an older brother would serve a younger brother was outrageous and disgraceful. But in God’s dealings with people, this sort of role reversal is just the opposite; it is a work of grace (Romans 9:10 – 13).
