Dr. Wiersbe’s grandson, Dan Jacobsen, writes, “Grandpa built bridges from the world of the Bible to the world of today so that we could get to the other side of glory in Jesus. ‘There’s not a passage in the Bible I haven’t first looked up what Wiersbe has said on the topic,’ most pastors tell me. In multiple languages, his words have helped many handle God’s Word with some sense of accuracy and fidelity.”

According to Jacobsen, “Grandpa’s favorite verse was Psalm 33:11, ‘But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.’”

Dr. Wiersbe was the author of more than 150 books, including his well-known “BE” Bible commentary series providing insight on most of the books in the Old Testament and every book in the New Testament.

Just last year, Dr. Wiersbe said, “Writing to me is a ministry. I’m not an athlete, I’m not a mechanic. I can’t do so many of the things that successful men can do. But I can read and study and think and teach. This is a beautiful, wonderful gift from God. All I’m doing is using what he’s given to me to teach people, and to give glory to the Lord Jesus Christ.”

On the subject of studying the Bible, Dr. Wiersbe said, “I try to get the reader to get excited about Scripture. When we come to the Bible with a joyful attitude of expectancy, it becomes a new book….People need to realize that the way they treat their Bible is the way they are treating Jesus. Our Lord is the Living Word, and my Bible is the Living Word that is written. And they parallel each other. And so if I want to ignore Jesus, I just ignore the Bible. But I don’t dare do that. Because I need to belong to him, to walk with him, and to obey him.”

Dr. Wiersbe became a Christian in his teenage years when he heard evangelist Billy Graham preach at an early Youth for Christ rally.
