President George H. W. Bush, 94, (@GeorgeHWBush and @Bush41Library) the father of former US president George W. Bush, died Nov. 30, 2018 in Houston, Texas after suffering with vascular Parkinsonism. His funeral Dec. 5—declared a national day of mourning—at Washington National Cathedral (service leaflet) was attended by dignitaries, including President Donald Trump, former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and George W. Bush, Charles, Prince of Wales, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, former Mexican President Carlos Salinas, and former UK Prime Minister John Major.

Bush, a lifelong Episcopalian, was hesitant to talk openly about his Christian faith. Asked whether he had been “born again,” he said, “If by ‘born again’ one is asking, ‘Do you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?’ then I could answer a clear-cut ‘Yes.’ No hesitancy, no awkwardness.” If the question, though, were whether there had been “one single moment, above any others, in which your life has been instantly changed then I can’t say that this has happened, since there have been many moments,” according to Jon Meacham, author of Bush’s biography Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush.
A second funeral was held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, Dec. 6. Bush’s body is buried at his presidential library on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, 100 miles northwest of Houston, beside Barbara Bush, his wife of 73 years, and daughter Robin, who was 3 years old when she died of leukemia in 1953.

Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
John 11:21-27
Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.
