  1. Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear.
  2. But the Lord said to him, “Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.

  11. The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.
  12. And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.
  13. The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.
  14. Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.
  15. The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.
  16. He also said, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem.
  17. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.”
  18. But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building.
  19. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.
  20. So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
  21. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
  22. The Call of Abram

    The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
  23. So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.
  24. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
  25. From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.
