  1. Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the church of God in Corinth, together with all his holy people throughout Achaia:
  2. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
  3. Praise to the God of All Comfort

    Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
  4. who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
  5. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.
  6. Paul’s Change of Plans

    Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, with integrity and godly sincerity. We have done so, relying not on worldly wisdom but on God’s grace.
  7. But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.”
  8. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silas and Timothy—was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has always been “Yes.”
  9. For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
  10. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us,
  11. I call God as my witness—and I stake my life on it—that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth.
  12. But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
  13. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
  14. Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.
  15. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
  16. Such confidence we have through Christ before God.
  17. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
  18. Present Weakness and Resurrection Life

    Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.
  19. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
  20. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
  21. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
  22. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
  23. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
  24. Awaiting the New Body

    For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
  25. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
