  1. The Ministry of Reconciliation

    Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.
  2. If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
  3. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
  4. that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
  5. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
  6. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
  7. As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.
  8. For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
  9. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses;
  10. in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left;
  11. What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
  12. Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
  13. But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,
  14. yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us.
  15. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
  16. See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
  17. So even though I wrote to you, it was neither on account of the one who did the wrong nor on account of the injured party, but rather that before God you could see for yourselves how devoted to us you are.
  18. The Collection for the Lord’s People

    And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.
  19. And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.
  20. Titus Sent to Receive the Collection

    Thanks be to God, who put into the heart of Titus the same concern I have for you.
  21. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
  22. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
  23. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
  24. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.
  25. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.
