² as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby,

² as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation;

² Like newborn babies you should crave (thirst for, earnestly desire) the pure (unadulterated) spiritual milk, that by it you may be nurtured and grow unto [completed] salvation,

² Instead, like a newborn baby, desire the pure milk of the word. Nourished by it, you will grow into salvation,

² and be like newborn babies, thirsty for the pure milk of the Word; so that by it, you may grow up into deliverance.

² Be like newborn babies who are thirsty for the pure spiritual milk that will help you grow and be saved.

² as newborn babes desire earnestly the pure mental milk of the word, that by it ye may grow up to salvation,

² As newborn babes, desire the rational milk without guile, that thereby you may grow unto salvation:

² Like newborn babies hungry for milk, you should want the pure teaching that feeds your spirit. With it you can grow up and be saved.

² Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—

² As newborn babies want milk, you should want the ·pure [sincere; unadulterated] and ·simple [or spiritual] ·teaching [^Lmilk; ^Cprobably referring to the word of God; see 1:23–25]. By it you can ·mature [grow; reach maturity] in your salvation,

² As newborn babes desire that sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby,

² Desire God’s pure word as newborn babies desire milk. Then you will grow in your salvation.

² Be like newborn babies, always thirsty for the pure spiritual milk, so that by drinking it you may grow up and be saved.

² Like newborn infants, desire the pure spiritual milk, so that you may grow by it for your salvation,

2 ^1-3 Have done, then, with all evil and deceit, all pretence and jealousy and slander. You are babies, new-born in God’s family, and you should be crying out for unadulterated spiritual milk to make you grow up to salvation! And so you will, if you have already tasted the goodness of the Lord.

² As newborn babies want milk, you should want the pure and simple teaching. By it you can mature in your salvation,

² And yearn like newborn infants for pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,

² Like babies that were just born, you should long for the pure milk of God’s word. It will help you grow up as believers.

² Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

² Babies who have just been born want milk very much. In the same way, you should want God's word. That is like good milk. It will make you grow up so that you will then be fully saved.
