Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Version
Exodus 23:14-25:40

14 “Celebrate a festival in My honor three times a year.(A) 15 Observe the Festival of Unleavened Bread. As I commanded you, you are to eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of Abib,[a] because you came out of Egypt in that month. No one is to appear before Me empty-handed.(B) 16 Also observe the Festival of Harvest[b] with the firstfruits of your produce from what you sow in the field, and observe the Festival of Ingathering[c](C) at the end of the year, when you gather your produce[d] from the field. 17 Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord God.

18 “You must not offer the blood of My sacrifices with anything leavened. The fat of My festival offering must not remain until morning.(D)

19 “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your land to the house of the Lord your God.

“You must not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.(E)

Promises and Warnings

20 “I am going to send an angel(F) before you to protect you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared. 21 Be attentive to him and listen to his voice. Do not defy[e] him, because he will not forgive your acts of rebellion, for My name is in him.(G) 22 But if you will carefully obey him and do everything I say, then I will be an enemy(H) to your enemies and a foe to your foes. 23 For My angel will go before you and bring you to the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.(I) 24 You must not bow down to their gods or worship them. Do not imitate their practices. Instead, demolish them[f] and smash their sacred pillars to pieces.(J) 25 Worship the Lord your God, and He[g] will bless your bread and your water. I will remove illnesses from you.(K) 26 No woman will miscarry or be childless in your land. I will give you the full number of your days.(L)

27 “I will cause the people ahead of you to feel terror[h] and throw into confusion(M) all the nations you come to. I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you in retreat. 28 I will send the hornet[i](N) in front of you, and it will drive the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites away from you. 29 I will not drive them out ahead of you in a single year; otherwise, the land would become desolate, and wild animals would multiply against you. 30 I will drive them out little by little ahead of you until you have become numerous[j] and take possession of the land. 31 I will set your borders from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea,[k] and from the wilderness to the Euphrates River.[l] For I will place the inhabitants of the land under your control, and you will drive them out ahead of you.(O) 32 You must not make a covenant(P) with them or their gods. 33 They must not remain in your land, or else they will make you sin against Me. If you worship their gods, it will be a snare for you.”(Q)

The Covenant Ceremony

24 Then He said to Moses, “Go up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and 70 of Israel’s elders,(R) and bow in worship at a distance. Moses alone is to approach the Lord, but the others are not to approach, and the people are not to go up with him.”

Moses came and told the people all the commands of the Lord and all the ordinances. Then all the people responded with a single voice, “We will do everything that the Lord has commanded.”(S) And Moses wrote(T) down all the words of the Lord. He rose early the next morning and set up an altar and 12 pillars for the 12 tribes of Israel at the base of the mountain. Then he sent out young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as fellowship offerings to the Lord. Moses took half the blood and set it in basins; the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. He then took the covenant scroll and read it aloud to the people. They responded, “We will do and obey everything that the Lord has commanded.”

Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you concerning all these words.”(U)

Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and 70 of Israel’s elders, 10 and they saw(V) the God of Israel. Beneath His feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire[m] stone, as clear as the sky itself.(W) 11 God did not harm[n] the Israelite nobles; they saw(X) Him, and they ate and drank.

12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and stay there so that I may give you the stone tablets(Y) with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”

13 So Moses arose with his assistant Joshua and went up the mountain of God.(Z) 14 He told the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. Aaron and Hur are here with you. Whoever has a dispute should go to them.” 15 When Moses went up the mountain, the cloud(AA) covered it. 16 The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day He called to Moses from the cloud.(AB) 17 The appearance of the Lord’s glory to the Israelites was like a consuming fire(AC) on the mountaintop. 18 Moses entered the cloud as he went up the mountain, and he remained on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights.(AD)

Offerings to Build the Tabernacle

25 The Lord spoke to Moses: “Tell the Israelites to take an offering for Me. You are to take My offering from everyone who is willing to give.(AE) This is the offering you are to receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze; blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goat hair; ram skins dyed red(AF) and manatee skins;[o] acacia wood; oil(AG) for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; and onyx[p] along with other gemstones for mounting on the ephod and breastpiece.[q](AH)

“They are to make a sanctuary(AI) for Me so that I may dwell(AJ) among them. You must make it according to all that I show you—the pattern(AK) of the tabernacle as well as the pattern of all its furnishings.

The Ark

10 “They are to make an ark(AL) of acacia wood, 45 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 27 inches high.[r] 11 Overlay it with pure gold; overlay it both inside and out. Also make a gold molding all around it. 12 Cast four gold rings for it and place them on its four feet, two rings on one side and two rings on the other side. 13 Make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 14 Insert the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark in order to carry the ark with them. 15 The poles are to remain in the rings of the ark; they must not be removed from it. 16 Put the tablets of the testimony that I will give you into the ark.(AM) 17 Make a mercy seat(AN) of pure gold, 45 inches long and 27 inches wide.[s] 18 Make two cherubim of gold; make them of hammered work at the two ends of the mercy seat. 19 Make one cherub at one end and one cherub at the other end. At its two ends, make the cherubim of one piece with the mercy seat. 20 The cherubim are to have wings spread out above, covering(AO) the mercy seat with their wings, and are to face one another. The faces of the cherubim should be toward the mercy seat. 21 Set the mercy seat on top of the ark and put the testimony that I will give you into the ark.(AP) 22 I will meet with you there above the mercy seat, between the two cherubim(AQ) that are over the ark of the testimony; I will speak with you from there about all that I command you regarding the Israelites.

The Table

23 “You are to construct a table(AR) of acacia wood, 36 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 27 inches high.[t] 24 Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding all around it. 25 Make a three-inch[u] frame all around it and make a gold molding for it all around its frame. 26 Make four gold rings for it, and attach the rings to the four corners at its four legs. 27 The rings should be next to the frame as holders for the poles to carry the table. 28 Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold, and the table can be carried by them. 29 You are also to make its plates(AS) and cups, as well as its pitchers and bowls for pouring drink offerings. Make them out of pure gold. 30 Put the bread of the Presence(AT) on the table before Me at all times.

The Lampstand

31 “You(AU) are to make a lampstand(AV) out of pure, hammered gold. It is to be made of one piece: its base and shaft, its ornamental cups, and its calyxes[v] and petals. 32 Six branches are to extend from its sides, three branches of the lampstand from one side and three branches of the lampstand from the other side. 33 There are to be three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with a calyx and petals, on the first branch, and three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with a calyx and petals, on the next branch. It is to be this way for the six branches that extend from the lampstand. 34 There are to be four cups shaped like almond blossoms on the lampstand shaft along with its calyxes and petals. 35 For the six branches that extend from the lampstand, a calyx must be under the first pair of branches from it, a calyx under the second pair of branches from it, and a calyx under the third pair of branches from it. 36 Their calyxes and branches are to be of one piece.[w] All of it is to be a single hammered piece of pure gold.

37 “Make seven lamps(AW) on it. Its lamps are to be set up so they illuminate the area in front of it. 38 Its snuffers and firepans must be of pure gold. 39 The lampstand[x] with all these utensils is to be made from 75 pounds[y] of pure gold. 40 Be careful to make them according to the pattern(AX) you have been shown on the mountain.

Matthew 24:29-51

The Coming of the Son of Man

29 “Immediately after the tribulation(A) of those days:

The sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not shed its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the celestial powers will be shaken.

30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth[a] will mourn;[b] and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.(B) 31 He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet,(C) and they will gather His elect from the four winds,(D) from one end of the sky to the other.

The Parable of the Fig Tree

32 “Now learn this parable(E) from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, recognize[c] that He[d] is near—at the door!(F) 34 I assure you: This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place.(G) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away,(H) but My words will never pass away.(I)

No One Knows the Day or Hour

36 “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows—neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son[e] —except the Father only.(J) 37 As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. 38 For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark.(K) 39 They didn’t know[f] until the flood came and swept them all away. So this is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be: 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and one left.(L) 42 Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day[g] your Lord is coming.(M) 43 But know this: If the homeowner had known what time[h] the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.(N) 44 This is why you also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.(O)

Faithful Service to the Messiah

45 “Who then is a faithful and sensible slave,(P) whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give them food at the proper time?(Q) 46 That slave whose master finds him working(R) when he comes will be rewarded. 47 I assure you: He will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But if that wicked slave says in his heart, ‘My master is delayed,’ 49 and starts to beat his fellow slaves, and eats and drinks with drunkards,(S) 50 that slave’s master will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. 51 He will cut him to pieces[i] and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Psalm 30

Psalm 30

Joy in the Morning

A psalm; a dedication song for the house. Davidic.

I will exalt You, Lord,
because You have lifted me up(A)
and have not allowed my enemies
to triumph over me.(B)
Lord my God,
I cried to You for help, and You healed me.(C)
Lord, You brought me up from Sheol;(D)
You spared me from among those
going down[a] to the Pit.(E)

Sing to Yahweh, you His faithful ones,
and praise His holy name.(F)
For His anger lasts only a moment,
but His favor, a lifetime.
Weeping may spend the night,
but there is joy in the morning.(G)

When I was secure, I said,
“I will never be shaken.”(H)
Lord, when You showed Your favor,
You made me stand like a strong mountain;(I)
when You hid Your face, I was terrified.(J)
Lord, I called to You;
I sought favor from my Lord:(K)
“What gain is there in my death,
if I go down to the Pit?
Will the dust praise You?
Will it proclaim Your truth?(L)
10 Lord, listen and be gracious to me;
Lord, be my helper.”(M)

11 You turned my lament into dancing;
You removed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,(N)
12 so that I can sing to You and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise You forever.(O)

Proverbs 7:24-27

24 Now, my sons, listen to me,
and pay attention to the words of my mouth.
25 Don’t let your heart turn aside to her ways;
don’t stray onto her paths.(A)
26 For she has brought many down to death;
her victims are countless.[a]
27 Her house is the road to Sheol,
descending to the chambers of death.(B)
