Psalm 24
Of David. A psalm.
1 The earth is the Lord’s,(A) and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;(B)
2 for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.(C)
3 Who may ascend the mountain(D) of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?(E)
4 The one who has clean hands(F) and a pure heart,(G)
who does not trust in an idol(H)
or swear by a false god.[a]
5 They will receive blessing(I) from the Lord
and vindication(J) from God their Savior.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face,(K) God of Jacob.[b][c]
7 Lift up your heads, you gates;(L)
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King(M) of glory(N) may come in.(O)
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,(P)
the Lord mighty in battle.(Q)
9 Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
The Lord Almighty(R)—
he is the King of glory.
Psalm 29
A psalm of David.
1 Ascribe to the Lord,(A) you heavenly beings,(B)
ascribe to the Lord glory(C) and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness.(D)
3 The voice(E) of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory(F) thunders,(G)
the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.(H)
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;(I)
the voice of the Lord is majestic.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.(J)
6 He makes Lebanon leap(K) like a calf,
Sirion[b](L) like a young wild ox.(M)
7 The voice of the Lord strikes
with flashes of lightning.(N)
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert;
the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.(O)
9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks[c](P)
and strips the forests bare.
And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”(Q)

1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name(A) in all the earth!
You have set your glory(B)
in the heavens.(C)
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold(D) against your enemies,
to silence the foe(E) and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,(F)
the work of your fingers,(G)
the moon and the stars,(H)
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c](I)
5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e](J)
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.(K)
6 You made them rulers(L) over the works of your hands;(M)
you put everything under their[g] feet:(N)
7 all flocks and herds,(O)
and the animals of the wild,(P)
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,(Q)
all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 Lord, our Lord,

For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.
1 How lovely is your dwelling place,(A)
Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns,(B) even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.(C)
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,(D)
Lord Almighty,(E) my King(F) and my God.(G)
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.[c]
5 Blessed are those whose strength(H) is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.(I)
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
they make it a place of springs;(J)
the autumn(K) rains also cover it with pools.[d]
7 They go from strength to strength,(L)
till each appears(M) before God in Zion.(N)
8 Hear my prayer,(O) Lord God Almighty;
listen to me, God of Jacob.
9 Look on our shield,[e](P) O God;
look with favor on your anointed one.(Q)
10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper(R) in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun(S) and shield;(T)
the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold(U)
from those whose walk is blameless.
12 Lord Almighty,
blessed(V) is the one who trusts in you.
14 So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon.(A) When he had shaved(B) and changed his clothes,(C) he came before Pharaoh.
15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it.(D) But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”(E)
16 “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”(F)
17 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “In my dream I was standing on the bank of the Nile,(G) 18 when out of the river there came up seven cows, fat and sleek, and they grazed among the reeds.(H) 19 After them, seven other cows came up—scrawny and very ugly and lean. I had never seen such ugly cows in all the land of Egypt. 20 The lean, ugly cows ate up the seven fat cows that came up first. 21 But even after they ate them, no one could tell that they had done so; they looked just as ugly as before. Then I woke up.
22 “In my dream I saw seven heads of grain, full and good, growing on a single stalk. 23 After them, seven other heads sprouted—withered and thin and scorched by the east wind. 24 The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads. I told this to the magicians, but none of them could explain it to me.(I)”
25 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one and the same.(J) God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.(K) 26 The seven good cows(L) are seven years, and the seven good heads of grain are seven years; it is one and the same dream. 27 The seven lean, ugly cows that came up afterward are seven years, and so are the seven worthless heads of grain scorched by the east wind: They are seven years of famine.(M)
28 “It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.(N) 29 Seven years of great abundance(O) are coming throughout the land of Egypt, 30 but seven years of famine(P) will follow them. Then all the abundance in Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will ravage the land.(Q) 31 The abundance in the land will not be remembered, because the famine that follows it will be so severe. 32 The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided(R) by God, and God will do it soon.(S)
33 “And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man(T) and put him in charge of the land of Egypt.(U) 34 Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners(V) over the land to take a fifth(W) of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.(X) 35 They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for food.(Y) 36 This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt,(Z) so that the country may not be ruined by the famine.”
37 The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials.(AA) 38 So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God[a]?”(AB)
39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you,(AC) there is no one so discerning and wise as you.(AD) 40 You shall be in charge of my palace,(AE) and all my people are to submit to your orders.(AF) Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.(AG)”
Joseph in Charge of Egypt
41 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.”(AH) 42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring(AI) from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes(AJ) of fine linen(AK) and put a gold chain around his neck.(AL) 43 He had him ride in a chariot(AM) as his second-in-command,[b](AN) and people shouted before him, “Make way[c]!”(AO) Thus he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt.(AP)
44 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, but without your word no one will lift hand or foot in all Egypt.”(AQ) 45 Pharaoh gave Joseph(AR) the name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest(AS) of On,[d](AT) to be his wife.(AU) And Joseph went throughout the land of Egypt.
3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized(A) into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death(B) in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead(C) through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.(D)
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.(E) 6 For we know that our old self(F) was crucified with him(G) so that the body ruled by sin(H) might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin(I)— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.(J)
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.(K) 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead,(L) he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.(M) 10 The death he died, he died to sin(N) once for all;(O) but the life he lives, he lives to God.
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin(P) but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign(Q) in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness,(R) but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.(S) 14 For sin shall no longer be your master,(T) because you are not under the law,(U) but under grace.(V)
19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself;(A) he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son(B) and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these,(C) so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life,(D) even so the Son gives life(E) to whom he is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,(F) 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.(G)
24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me(H) has eternal life(I) and will not be judged(J) but has crossed over from death to life.(K)
